[0.12.24 steam] Steam version crashes every 3-5 minutes (RivaTuner related)
Re: Crashing while playing steam version
Re: [0.12.25 steam] [posila] Crashing while playing steam version
@DRZevus, @Raiden933: I am trying to fix the crash that happens when MSI Afterburner is running. I installed the latest version of MSI Afterburner, enabled overlay, but it didn't cause any crash in Factorio (or otherwise). Do you use it for GPU overclocking? What version of Afterburner and RivaTuner Statistics Server do you use? Can you somehow share your settings with me? Thank you in advance
Re: [0.12.25 steam] [posila] Crashing while playing steam version
Posila, just to be sure, do you have the game installed on Steam (with Steam overlay enabled) and with MSI afterburner installed ? It seems that it's this combination that causes problems.
Koub - Please consider English is not my native language.
Re: [0.12.25 steam] [posila] Crashing while playing steam version
Correct. I have tried it on several HW configurations already with no crashes. I am starting to think a cause of the crashes is not overlay but rather overclocked or somehow "fine tuned" GPU. So I am now interested how people who use MSI Afterburner (and the game crashes for them) have it configured.Koub wrote:Posila, just to be sure, do you have the game installed on Steam (with Steam overlay enabled) and with MSI afterburner installed ? Re: [0.12.24 steam][posila] [pending] Crashing while playing steam version
I tried setting the launch options to --force-opengl and that worked for me.
Thanks for the help
Also I use afterburner but not for overclocking just to keep an eye on my gpu.

Re: [0.12.25 steam] [posila] Crashing while playing steam version
I don't have any overclocking - I do have the afterburner overlay.posila wrote:Correct. I have tried it on several HW configurations already with no crashes. I am starting to think a cause of the crashes is not overlay but rather overclocked or somehow "fine tuned" GPU.
Re: [0.12.24 steam] Steam version crashes every 3-5 minutes
I tried different versions of MSI Afterburner, still no crash.
So in next version Factorio will detect if it crashed in Steam overlay and will show information about disabling GPU monitoring tools or running game under OpenGL.
I am moving the thread to Known issues.

Re: [0.12.24 steam] Steam version crashes every 3-5 minutes
Can you update to Afterburner 4.2.0 with RivaTuner Statistics Server 6.4.0/6.4.1 and see if the problem still occurs?
Apparently H1Z1 had the same problem after an update (crash on startup / very soon ingame) and updating the RTSS to 6.4.0 fixed the issue.

Re: [0.12.24 steam] Steam version crashes every 3-5 minutes
Updated to the below - no crashes yet (RivaTuner has it's overlay on showing FPS, and game is running with no command line flags); Factorio 0.12.24-0daniel34 wrote:Can you update to Afterburner 4.2.0 with RivaTuner Statistics Server 6.4.0/6.4.1 and see if the problem still occurs?

(MSI Afterburner 4.2.0 from http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi ... nload.html and using the version of RivaTuner that's bundled)
Re: [0.12.24 steam] Steam version crashes every 3-5 minutes
Thanks everyone for help. The problem really is pre-Windows 10 version of RivaTuner Statistics Server on Windows 10, which causes DirectX 9 games to crash. Updating RivaTuner Statistics Server (and whatever software installed it - MSI Afterbuner, EVGA PrecisionX or something similar) should fix this kind of crash.
