So it happened again on like the fifth launch of factorio today. I took some screenshots, restarted the game (left anything running in the background as it was) and then there was no more freezing. I see some major differences in gpu usage. Especially VRAM usage looks suspicious at only 400MB. To me...

With the factorio 0.12.5 update, the on-save event causing the crashes no longer works and as a result saving is no longer possible with this mod enabled.

I installed a video card monitoring program and when I load the above save it uses only 982MB VRAM (with 4x multisampling, 954MB without) out of 1280MB. Next time I run into this freeze thing maybe it will show something interesting :) The somewhat average flip line on F5 now says flip: 12.814/8.954...

You can reproduce this by placing an underground pipe while keeping MB1 pressed and then making the smallest movements with the mouse. I can't seem to reproduce this in 0.12.4. It would be even better if the map also displayed the total amount of resources on screen. This would allow for really balanced map creation.
