I think in between my post a new version has been released. Performance is back to normal, and the mod is working perfectly as intended.
I play with large modpacks so this mod is crucial for understanding long recipe chains, I can't imagine playing factorio without it anymore.
So more news on the "unexplainable stutters", I started to experience them again after adding all the set of NPUtils to my already large compilation. No alien biomes involved. I'm suspicious it might actually be a raw performance issue with factorio's engine due to the massive ammount of sprites ...
While FNEI 0.0.17 was stable and pretty much bugfree the new version is very unstable causing crashes, I was forced to rollback. If error reports are of use I can provide.
My main suspicion is that the increased range of decoratives is causing the problem, so it would be really useful if someone could confirm that the do decoratives display option fixes things. (I can't test it myself because I'm not getting the stutter.)

Thanks for the great job resurrecting these wonderful contraptions. I'd suggest making filter-capable loaders an separate (and more expensive, maybe MK2 circuit-tier) more expensive/complex version for balancing out their incredible versatility.
The problem with the current fluorite is it seems to have been done with a quick HSV adjust. It looks like candy for me. An appropriate recolor should make it purple fading to black, not white fading to purple (if you get what I mean about the gradients).
