What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
I have already tryed to search, so no need for LMGTFY.
I have started a game with the aim of getting 1RPM without logistic robots, no solar, no active/provider chests AND no modules.
What exactly do I need of each kind of product, beside of oil? (Oil I intend to simply extend till needs are fullfilled)
How many assemblers do I need to make different kinds of products and intermediates. I feel fairly certain that a lot of players already have this info, hence I don't want to do the calc myself.
BTW, Only mod activated is "Undecorator" as I am not certain my comp is strong enough for it without.
Bimme
P.S. I've also tryed to see if anyone had a "module and mods" free youtube of this, but to no avail

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
No bots, no solar, no modules.... wow, you're in for a world of hurt my friend.
As it happens, I'm currently playing a map that has SO much resources, I decided to give the 1RPM a shot.
I haven't got any numbers, but all I can say is that I had to triple or quadruple my usual setup to even come close to producing the goods needed...
I love games with an all-belt setup. Very challenging. Good luck with your project!
(btw, it's 'Tried', not 'Tryed').

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
you can do the inputs with this software
https://bitbucket.org/Nicksaurus/foreman
dont know how you can set it up , i use it as a guide to whats needed.

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
It's a fairly cludgey design, but you're welcome to try my own excel spreadsheet that I threw together to do the calculations.
It allows you to specify the number of production modules for each process, and works down through the recipes to figure out how much of each ingredient will be needed. It also allows you to specify the speed of the assemblers/chemplants and estimates how many you'll need.
The second page is something I made for refinery calculations. It assumes all heavy oil is cracked to light, then allows for a certain amount of light oil to be reserved for solid fuel production, cracking the rest to petroleum. Again, you can specify the production modules/speeds for each part of the process. It will then estimate how many plants you need for each part of the process. It also has a bottom section for estimating fluid throughputs, so you can estimate how many pipes will be needed for each part. The only real catch is that it bases its calculations off refinery production cycles, so you basically trial/error that input until you get production values that you like.
Pretty sure the calculations are accurate, although obviously they're all theoretical values and you should be prepared to pad things a little. All red fields are user-changeable, green fields are (hopefully) useful information.

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Is the 1 Rocket Per Minute challenge described somewhere? I'm curious what the 'rules' are, especially when it comes to storage.
Things tend to get a LOT easier when I let my fluids flow for a couple minutes before starting the launches..
I assume that storage, for any item or fluid, is a no-no for this self imposed challenge?

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
With vanilla factorio there is no way to have a factory running eternally, since ores will run out. So, in a sense ore fields are a form of storage. Also, all factories will have implicit storage in transit buffers, i.e. train wagons, logistic chests, belts, etc.
I would say the following rules are reasonable:
- factory must produce 60* rockets in an hour.
- all storage/buffers must be approximately as full at the end of the hour than at the beginning
I think its perfectly fine to have fluid in pipes and tanks or plates in trains, as long as they are replenished approximately as fast as they are consumed, i.e. the storage are buffers rather than consumable storage. Another way of putting it would be that, if you can disable resource depletion, it should be able to launch 60 rockets per hour indefinitely. An alternative 'rule' could be that storage/buffers/transit should contain less than 1 minute's worth of production, but I don't think it really matters.
(I don't like the outpost building/scrapping/rebuilding mini-game, so I use eternal ores anyway...)
edit: *) I would prefer 57.9 rockets per hour since that seems to be the capacity of a maximally boosted single silo

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
One rocket per minute is a little arbitrary, but it's still a meaningful goal, since the timeframe magnifies the production needs and flow of goods to the point where the vast majority of earlier solutions simply don't work anymore. A handful of blue belts are no longer sufficient, trains need to get longer and/or have better designed stations, fluid pipes start to bottleneck, and all but the most massive buffers will empty out if you're not providing enough fresh input materials. I know that making my own setup certainly gave me a new appreciation for mass production, and significantly increased my design/planning skills in the game.Bushdoctor wrote:Is the 1 Rocket Per Minute challenge described somewhere? no modules for the silo as well?

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Indeed! My old base with its tight setup is now basically just the production facility to make the huge base needed for the rocket challenge.Mehve wrote: One rocket per minute (...) significantly increased my design/planning skills in the game.
I get what you said about storage, but I don't really agree. I think it's definitely possible to stock up enough goods to launch for hours, even with a small base.
I think the goal of the 1RPM challenge is to have your machines produce the goods as needed and specifically not in advance.
I guess I'll go take a look at some Youtube clips and see how those guys did it...
Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Well, it's certainly POSSIBLE, I agree. But since the required ore stockpiles are in the millions/hour, you're looking at thousands and thousands of chests, just to buffer for a single hour. And I'd wager that the ore requirements are actually easier then the crude oil requirements on most maps.Bushdoctor wrote:...

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Very true. Getting enough oil to the base is what I'm currently stuck on.
So much so that I've stopped using trains and started piping it in.
That does require me to conquer and build walls around huge amounts of land, but the supply is more reliable than with trains.
Sofar.

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Really? A single wagon can hold 10000 crude oil, and a small pump can only do 30/sec, or 0.18 wagons per minute.Bushdoctor wrote:Very true. Getting enough oil to the base is what I'm currently stuck on.

Re: What exactly needed for 1RPM, no mods or modules
Yea, pumps seem to be the bottlenecks, that's why I don't use them in my oil pipes. At least, not for transport purposes.kinnom wrote: Really? A single wagon can hold 10000 crude oil, and a small pump can only do 30/sec, or 0.18 wagons per minute.
I just let the oil flow freely. The pipes seem large enough not to stop my drills from drilling oil. I figured that as long as I can fit all oil through pipes,
then I'm not going to need trains. It seems to reach my base in large enough quantities. Sofar.
You're right though, trains are still the better option. Especially when distances become larger and larger.
I have to admit that I'm deliberately not using trains on this map because my coal fired PC has trouble with large bases.
Leaving all trains out allows me to build larger than when I would include them.
