Suggestion: "Ingredient of recipe [x]" should allow user to map each ingredient to specific blueprint parameter.

Post by deemacgee »

TL;DR
Allow player to map recipe ingredients to specific blueprint parameters.
What?
Parameterised blueprint allows for shorthand selection of recipe parameter which then auto-populates later ingredient parameters, but does not allow the player to specify which ingredient is mapped to which parameter.
Why?
Blueprints for production setups which assume specific input points for certain ingredients currently cannot be deployed via blueprint whilst also honouring those assumptions. For example: a blue circuit assembler array blueprint with a train-fed bulk input/faster belt line for green circuits vs a lower throughput station/belt line for red circuits. Parameterising this blueprint and mapping recipe ingredients does not allow the player to assign the bulk input to bulk ingredients. In fact, there seems to be no way to control which recipe ingredient is assigned to a target parameter, irrespective of the order in which the parameter values ({0},{1},{2}, etc) are assigned when initially parameterising the blueprint. That there is no option to map ingredients in this manner indicates this is currently by design and not a bug.

I agree. It's currently possible to manipulate this by introducing irrelevant signals/parameters into the blueprint and set them as ingredients. Since which parameter becomes which ingredient is determined by the order in the blueprint-parametrization-list (and the order of ingredients in the recipe), you cann essentially choose which ingredient you get, but it is fairly tedious.
A simple option to choose a number for x in the "ingredient of ... #x" parametrization setting would be great.

Agreed, it is extremely tedious. Also, parameterisation doesn't differentiate between item and fluid inputs (or even offer the option to), which means I now have inserters trying to pick up liquids. Imagine dousing your inserter in acid! That's not going to help the cause.

I am agree this needs to be fixed. I am having a similar issue where I wish to implement a blueprint to automatically make l2 modules, but have it automagically setup bots. While it is possible to make this currently, it is a huge faff. It would be nice to just change the l1 module to be the 3rd input of the l2 module and have it work. Leaving the other inputs unparameterised. Honestly it would be amazing if this could be a formula, but a drop down box would still be fine.
