Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
The one thing that has annoyed me about factorio so far is that no matter what world you play in your are going to get attacked. I think that there should be an option like in minecraft to stop biters from spawning so you can just play through the game without risk off all your machines getting destroyed.

Among the options when starting a new game is to disable enemy bases.

There will be a peaceful mode in 0.7.1.
changelog for 0.7.1 wrote: - Peaceful mode in freeplay. Biters don't attack unless attacked. Worms still shoot on sight.
I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
Will there be a "peaceful peaceful" mode? Like without any biters / worms. Pink science packs could be got from random places on the map, like "creeper ruins" without any threat.
Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
Make a map for that? Where is the fun, if there is no danger?
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
the fun is in building crazy factories and i think that that is the main thing if factorio not the killing of biters
Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
It's simple: Some people just don't want to play with this "brutal" aspect and only build their factories. Also some more options like "Playing without threat" can't hurt the game. More options = better.

is a 300 by 300 map big enough ?
Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
The peaceful mode will be orthogonal setting to having natives on the map. That means you can still have enemy bases but be in peaceful mode. Then the enemies will not attack you unless you attack them. They will ignore pollution and also you walking around. As mentioned before this is a bit of placeholder before we implement a mechanism to obtain alien science packs in other ways than fighting (i.e. trade).

Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
I haven't played since 6.4 (or something - I know that I skipped 7.0) and I love the peaceful mode. Enemies are still difficult and are stupidly populated
I also like that worms attack so it still makes my driving / expansion cautious, in contrast to me driving around owning the planet in 6.x
I do find it difficult to adjust to non-peaceful mode, which might turn some newbies off, but a gentle campaign will alleviate that.
Although, I wish I had a larger starting area without the biters. Some maps are difficult when you are surrounded by worms at spawn.

You can set the size of the starting area in the map generation dialog.3LollipopZ wrote:Although, I wish I had a larger starting area without the biters. Some maps are difficult when you are surrounded by worms at spawn.

Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
Since I updated to 7.1 it appears I select a large starting size and I spawn right next to or within the enemy base
It no longer works like it had in the past, where the enemies were outside of a certain area.
It actually makes it deliciously difficult... which I like, but perhaps it's not happening for others like that??

Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
For some reason, I always thought that "Starting area" in fact meant something like "frequency of enemies inside your starting area", because when I set it to none, i get no enemies, when I set it to big, I get a LOT of enemies nearby.
Re: Proper "Peaceful" Freeplay Mode
Implemented in 0.7.1
