Small issue: After autoupdate Factorio restarts, the mouse changes to a swirling circle to show, that the user needs to wait, but it keeps like so. The game seems to be working (full screen) and I can change with the task manager back and forth, but I cannot click anything in the game (the mouse keeps swirling). The process is showed to be working, but the application is not applicable, cause the API seems to be "locked".
The only way to solve this is to hard kill Factorio (Force Quit shows that "Factorio is not responding") and restart it.
This bug is eventually much older than 0.11.12, I remember similar situations since 0.11.4 or so, but my note here says, that it was definitely in 0.11.12. If I can help to reproduce it, just mail.

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updateing Factorio is not useable
Sometimes around 0.11.4 we have started using the MacMini machine with OSX Yosemite for deploys. That could be related. Until then the deploys have been done on my old MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
With 0.11.18 no update was possible. It said, that the binary has been changed! (Diff in size)
I reinstalled the game. After starting up same problem: The game asked me to update the scenario, but with rotating mouse pointer access wasn't possible.
After restart I could update.
I'll retry this, maybe it's some tool, that is installed?

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
I thought this might have something to do with starting the game in fullscreen mode. Now the game freezes on some starts, but not all of them, which leads me to believe there's some starting procedure that happens only now and then leads to the freeze.
I for one have disabled automatic updates to the best of my ability, as that's the only starting procedure which might happen every now and then. Doesn't seem to affect much though.
My steps to reproduce this bug is to set the game to fullscreen and one of the next five restarts of the game should result in a freeze that persists on further restarts.
Here's the relevant bit of backtrace provided by the crash report tool

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
I need to make a full restore from backup and afterwards I reinstalled the game again. I don't needed to reinstall the full version now, instead update worked, but afterwards the same problem with the hanging screen.
[The reason for this restore was so: In my company we have now this BIG screen. instead of a projector. And it has some airplay installed. Of course I tried to connect and it worked. In the beginning. Then I had the luck to find the current bug in macos, that airplay makes problems. The result was a pink screen. Everything was pink. Factorio with a pink overlay looks like Barbie Dreamhouse. ]

Update from 0.11.19 to 0.11.20 worked!
I don't say "Fixed", cause I don't know, if that was only luck , but 8 releases not working and now working looks like a solution. (crossing thumbs)

Yes. This time update didn't work again. I 5 more times to update 0.11.20->0.11.21 and found, that the update works sometimes, sometimes not. I found no rule for that happening. But there must be one...

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
New info: This is not related to an update. There is just a chance of hanging up on any startup. I measured: In about 30-50% of all Factorio-starts it hangs up, or more exactly: In a row of 20 starts it hangs up 7 times.
The chance, that it hangs up after an update is much higher, I estimate 70-90%.
So I think there is a relevance to the duration of the startup-loader. Cause when updated, the loading takes longer.
My current guess: There is a chance, that something, an event, or anything else, is happening during the Factorio startup. When the game then runs, MacOS cannot connect to the game instance anymore, cause it is blocked/locked by anything else or it is used by another (background-)instance, that doesn't handle the events.
Update: No this doesn't seem to be relevant. I found out - by constantly clicking as fast as possible during the startup - that the locking is happening directly in the startup: The mouse cursor goes to rainbow about 1 second after the white screen in the very beginning.
My logs (all logs lock like this, you don't see anything relevant here):

Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
Are you still having the same hangups, because i am having them too. In my case it seems to happen mostly on the first time launching Factorio on a cold boot and after that it is random.ssilk wrote:New info: This is not related to an update. There is just a chance of hanging up on any startup. I measured: In about 30-50% of all Factorio-starts it hangs up, or more exactly: In a row of 20 starts it hangs up 7 times.
Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] After updating Factorio is not useable
What exactly happens? Do you have the log of it?
Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] Random crash when starting the game
Note: I found out, that when this happens, the white screen at game-start lasts about half a second longer than normal.

I will try to describe the situation:
Factorio: 0.12.2
System info:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Mac OSX 10.10.4
2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB & NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB GDDR5
When starting Factorio i sometimes get a Spinning pinwheel the input becomes non responsive but the game loads up. I then have to force quit Factorio because i cannot press any button in the main menu.

The result is the same with a clean install without mods.
I have been having this problem since version 0.10 i believe. It does not bother me that much but it is still a little bit annoying.
Maybe it has something to do with the switching of the graphics card from in-cpu to dedicated, when Factorio starts the NVIDIA card is turned on.
I know this is hard to reproduce so if you need any other information let me know and i will be happy to supply it.
Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] Random crash when starting the game
Added a error log to my post above
Re: [0.11.12-14 MacOS] Random crash when starting the game
Technically low level, a crash happen after loaded .12.3 from 0.12.2 game , game seem to do a heavy updated ( 94 % cpu usage) , character jumped from moving tank, tank hit character , characters bots repair tank, at this point received error & crashed, restarted game , duplicated past action no crash.
