[raiguard][2.1.14][linux] Typing German umlauts don't work

What did you do?
1. I start any game on Linux Steam Version - New game, save, etc - doesn't matter
2. I press ctrl (strg on a german keyboard) + B for the blueprint book
3. I choose any blueprint
3. Then i klick in the description field to write someting

What happened?
When i all letters are OK, except Ü,ü,Ö,ö,Ä,ä,ß - German umlauts do not appear (On Linux)

What did you expect to happen instead?
I expect to see by typing umlauts like in the words "Ölplattform, für, benötigen" to appear.

Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
It happen always. Other Linux apps work without this issue, it's Factorio only.

I use LINUX MINT CINNAMON

Factorio Windows Steam version [2.1.14] doesn't have this issue - Umlauts working fine.

Which in-game language are you using on both operating systems? The fonts used are determined by the language and that's the only reason I can think of why they may not render on one vs another.

On both operating systems the in-game language is german.
In the intro screen it shows "Auto (Deutsch)" on the bottom right. I switched to English-Restarted and it shows the exact same umlauts problem. Switched back to "Auto (Deutsch)"+restart, the same problem, and to "Deutsch"+ restart - the problem persists.

Does they also not show up in in-game names/text (like Schweröl in Factoriopedia), or is it only typing it that doesn't work?

Just the typing doesn't work. The game itself shows all texts correctly, like "Hauptmenü". When i make a keybind for example alt+ü for lua console- it shows "alt+ü" for the lua console in the menu and it works like that ingame. So the game doesn't show umlauts (like no key is pressed) only by typing normal text.

BTW; written umlauts blueprints done in the Windows version are showing up correctly in the linux version. On linux i only can delete them...

What is your keyboard layout, both on the hardware side and how it is configured in Linux? I use German keyboard hardware and have it configured as the German layout in Linux and I can type the umlaute just fine. (Looks like this is the layout I'm using: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tastaturb ... nter_Linux)

Keyboard hardware layout is german and it's configured to german and works with all other apps and Steam games correctly.

I did some more research and switched back to the regular Factorio 2.0 Linux version. The umlauts work with this version flawlessly - so the problem is in the experimental version only.


Just a small rant:
I NEVER will do this stunt again, because i almost lost my blueprints forever . Lucky me i have Factorio Steam version on Windows and Linux. Don't ask me how i did save my BPs, it was a bit of a hassle and googling. Phew.

I have a very similar problem with cyrillic. I am also on linux mint, on version 2.1.16. everything is fine on stable 2.0 version
I cannot type anything in cyrillic with both english and russian in-game languages. In-game cyrillic text shows up just fine and i also can paste in cyrillic text.
I also tried installing ibus and it didn't change anything.

I also tried it on arch linux with kde plasma and there i can write cyrillic in the experimental version.

Phew, and i thought i'm the only one. The problem persists in 2.1.16 (Linux Mint). Are there confirmations for other languages?

In my testing on Linux Mint Cinnamon I was able to reproduce the problem, but only with the Steam version.
Can you try the standalone version and see if that works for you to confirm?

I downloaded 2.1.17 experimental standalone (Vanilla and Space Age seperately tested, with mods and without mods), and it works like a charm So it's something with the Steam version...

Tried it in standalone version 2.1.17. Still cannot type in cyrillic. I am still on linux mint with cinnamon.
I also tried installing ibus and after this it started working in standalone version. I don't want to keep ibus on my system though
