[2.0.71] Map preview off-center with many resources active

I noticed something strange when activating many modded planets in Space Age 2.0.71.

The longer the list of resources in the map generation, the more empty space is added at the top of the map preview – to the point where the default view of map preview is visibly off-center or even mostly empty.

After some digging, I can even see a visible difference between base game and space-age, without additional mods.

This is the map preview with the base game, scrolled all the way to the top. It looks fine.

With space-age you see how the map preview, when scrolled all the way to the top, suddenly has a bigger empty space:

This empty space gets more and more pronounced, the longer the list of resources gets.

This is base without space-age but with bobores by bobingabout (+all ores activated via mod settings)

Finally, when activating Space Age and the modpack loup-guide-galaxy, which adds a lot of planets with many resources, I see this as the map preview, when scrolled all the way to the top:

I don't believe any one of these mods is doing something wrong. I think the map preview should not generate empty space under any circumstances.

My monitor recently broke and I had to work with an older low-res monitor for a while. Now I'm back to glorious 4k but then I noticed that the map preview when starting a new game is off center. The screenshots are from a game with Spaghettorio, which certainly touches map generation, and a few other mods that shouldn't touch map stuff. Full modlist attached.

The first screenshot is how the preview pops up. The view supposedly is centered as shown by the slider but the top part of the preview is grey, out of bounds. It' s fully generated the map. The second screenshot is when I scroll down and shows the starting are with the little water lake centered. But the scroller says I'm at the bottom.

One thing I can think of as unusual is that I didn't restart my X when switching monitors. So the X server was started with the low-res monitor and then I switched to the new monitor and changed the resolution. Not sure why that should matter but maybe that's required to reproduce it.

Edit: When I zoom out using "ctrl -" till the sliders are gone the map shows up perfectly centered:

The hint that it depends on your monitor is actually very helpful!

I tested a bit more and realized it also depends on the in-game UI scale. Much more so than mods.

Here is a screenshot with only Space Age (no additional mods)

For more context:
That screenshot was taken from my secondary 1080p monitor in X11 mode. But since my primary 4K monitor has a desktop scaling of 2x, the Factorio in-game UI scaling defaults to 200% as well (which actually looks like the normal 100% for 1080p). To reproduce the above screenshot set UI scale to 250%. That would correspond to a "normal" UI scale of 125%.

Things are getting weirder. Now I tested in Wayland mode on the exact same 1080p monitor. It correctly identifies the default UI scale as 100%.
Manually setting the UI scale to 125% now I expected to see the same picture as in the previous post. Alas, it is different!

Note, I am using the same map seed as in the image above, so the generated map is identical, but I see a smaller part of it in the preview – and the empty space is gone.

More importantly the grey empty space is gone despite the scroll bar on the resources still being present.

Do try playing around with ctrl- and ctrl+ to change the GUI scale on the fly to see how it adjust in X11 and wayland for you.
