[Strangepan] [2.0.66] All text in UI misaligned after update

Post by wavedepletion »

2.0.66 (build 83840 expansion, linux64)
Archlinux 6.12.45-1-lts

After Steam updated my version to 2.0.66 today, all text alignment in UI, menus, buttons, etc is off.

Text is shifted upwards, sometimes cutting off depending on the UI element.

Played yesterday before the update and it was not occurring in the previous release.

Not 100% certain it's related to the Factorio update anymore, as I reverted to 2.0.65 in the Steam betas menu and the issue is still there. I assumed it was the update since it showed me the Changelog on startup today, then I noticed the issue. But it seems .66 was released several days ago, so I should have been on it already. Unless there are some incremental builds that release in between.

Could be some UI library package update, perhaps gnome/GTK? I'm on Wayland w/Hyprland.

My most recent system updated packages:
[2025-09-05T07:46:54-0700] [ALPM] upgraded systemd-libs (257.8-2 -> 257.9-1)

In Settings->Interface->UI Scale, changing the setting from "Automatic (200%)" to Manual (pixels) 200% seems to fix it. I'm using Full Screen on a 4k monitor.

Using Manual (points) seems to improve things vs automatic, but the text is still vertically misaligned somewhat.

Reverting back to Automatic and then restarting breaks the alignment.

This is confusing, the log shows "[UIScale: automatic (100.0%)] [Native DPI: true]" and "[Size] Window: 3840x2160"

I noticed this as well. This is with the scale set to Automatic 200%.

On the loading screen, the text below the progress bar initially starts at a tiny size, then jumps to a large bold size after a second.

As far as I can see, for the issue to occur, the preferred graphics backend needs to be set to Wayland, and the UI scale needs to be set to Automatic at the time the game is booting up. Changing the UI scale in any way afterwards will get the text into the right position, and it will stay that way until the game is restarted again.

On my machine, automatic detects a UI scale of 200%.

My Wayland compositor is sway. It might be the case that this matters.

I have the same issue with 2.0.66 running Hyprland on Fedora 42. I've mitigated the issue by changing the UI scale from Automatic to Manual.

This issue should be fixed in 2.0.67. If you encounter it again on or after 2.0.67, please update this thread or create another!
