i would have expected smart belt to place an underground before the splitter. similar to the underground that is placed when running the curve into a belt.

this is not the same? this is not about the general splitter behavior change. this is about the bugged missing underground when interacting with the splitter on a curve

The "bug" i see happening here is the difference in the underground when you attempt to make a corner in the belt.
When you run into a belt (or as far as i can tell any other obstacle) you still place an underground, which results in the sideload you can see in the video above.
This is different when the obstacle is a splitter.
