Every* time my wireless headphones are disconnected and I connect them back the sound cuts out completely, it does so in the Main Menu and when playing. It only cuts sound to Factorio and nothing else.
When the headphone battery drains the deadphones shut down on their own. When I reconnect there is no sound.
If I manually press the button on the headphones and turn them back on and reconnect there is no sound.
If I turn off Bluetooth on my PC and then turn it back on and reconnect there is no sound.
*If I disconnect the headphones using the PC and reconnect the sound comes back.
When I restart the game the sound comes back.
I have the Sennheiser HD 458BT wireless headphones.

Re: [2.0.42] Sound completely cuts out when disconnecting wireless headphones
If the headphones are the default audio device (and stay default after disconnecting and reconnecting) the audio backend should do its best to resume playing sound through that device.
If you explicitly selected your headphones as the preferred output device in Factorio sound settings it might not be able to resume playing.
Post a log file from when the headphones are disconnected and reconnected with no sound playing and maybe I can see something actionable in it.
