Drop protection from space platforms

Drop protection from space platforms
One thing that really annoys me with Space Age is the unwanted orbital drops from space platforms.
No, my science hauler isn't for supplying fusion power cells to gleba..
It can't be that hard to lock items to space platforms?
In the request menu, have a option asking if this item is requestable from cargo landing pads.
I hope this gets added Sorry if this topic already has been covered.

Re: Drop protection from space platforms
Sadly I think there are only three things you can do:
- Uncheck the unload checkbox on the platforms schedule, ensuring nothing gets dropped.
- Don't request the items in the landing pad (this can also be controlled by circuits)
- Store your items elsewhere on the platform (e.g. in belts or inserters)
Re: Drop protection from space platforms
Afaik this can be fixed by adding a request for 0-1000 (or however many you have on the ship) for the respective planet, this will stop the ship from sending down the resource.
Still feels very much like a workaround.

Ahh, I completely forgot about that, much better than any of my solutions.mako00 wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:28 am Afaik this can be fixed by adding a request for 0-1000 (or however many you have on the ship) for the respective planet, this will stop the ship from sending down the resource.

It would be good if that was discoverable in game though, the only reason I even know about that behaviour is from reading a not-a-bug report.
Re: Drop protection from space platforms
Yeah, the space logistics part is easily my least favorite design choice. There's a lot of hidden logic and magic behavior.
I guess it does succeed in making simple cases easy, but it remives a lot of control from the player. Space Exploration did this much better.
Re: Drop protection from space platforms
Sounds like a good solution, but would this stop auto refilling of the item in question?mako00 wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:28 am Afaik this can be fixed by adding a request for 0-1000 (or however many you have on the ship) for the respective planet, this will stop the ship from sending down the resource.

Say I want 300 power cells on my ship, and put it as 0-300, would it only be refilled once it hits 0?
Re: Drop protection from space platforms
If you want to refill, just write 300 there and it won't be dropping power cells. 0 is for when you don't want to refill or drop.Etossi wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:34 amSounds like a good solution, but would this stop auto refilling of the item in question?mako00 wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:28 am Afaik this can be fixed by adding a request for 0-1000 (or however many you have on the ship) for the respective planet, this will stop the ship from sending down the resource.

Where is the automation in that though.. factory must grow, I don't have time to manually refill my shipsh.q.droid wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:41 amIf you want to refill, just write 300 there and it won't be dropping power cells.

It will automatically refill if you have less than 300 in stock though.Etossi wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:02 amWhere is the automation in that though.. factory must grow, I don't have time to manually refill my shipsh.q.droid wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:41 amIf you want to refill, just write 300 there and it won't be dropping power cells.

A lot of quotes here; if that's the case then it's okay. Would still like to see some rework here though.IsaacOscar wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:04 amIt will automatically refill if you have less than 300 in stock though.Etossi wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:02 amWhere is the automation in that though.. factory must grow, I don't have time to manually refill my shipsh.q.droid wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:41 amIf you want to refill, just write 300 there and it won't be dropping power cells.

Re: Drop protection from space platforms
Everytime you go to the associate planet, if you have less than 300, rocket silos will try and send more to you (either if they have the item manually inserted, or have the accept automatic requests checkbox on). If you require your platform to wait for all requests to be satisfied, it will stay in orbit until it has 300 (which could cause it to wait a long time if the planet doesn't have any of the item, or it doesn't have any rockets ready).Etossi wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:09 amA lot of quotes here; if that's the case then it's okay. There are lots and lots of stuff that should be reworked with space platform logistics though, it would be nice if you could request from specific platforms in the same way as you can from a specific planet (and allow platforms to have the same name? Or alternatively have 'platform groups', just like we have 'train groups'?)
(As for the quotes, I usually delete nested ones, but I was too lazy this time; it really should do that automatically for you).
