I decided to add quite a few QoL and other various mods to a new Multiplayer world after having finished vanilla Space Age. After getting the list of mods we wanted to use and installing/initializing them, my game started to crash on the main menu. I looked at the changelog and spotted the error lines and removed which mods I thought were causing the errors, but the error then looked like it was a directory issue. I validated my game files and booted the game back up and am still getting crashes. I haven't spent long enough in game to test what might cause a crash in game, as I would like to play with all of the mods enabled if I can. Would using the Experimental version break many things or perhaps solve the issue? Please help! I feel like I am stuck on !quilo with no rocket silo
Looks like a hardware issue, see 58225. You can try reducing render threads in settings, if it reduces the frequency of crashes it would confirm the cause. If you find a way to produce the crashes reliably (as in a sequence of actions that will 100% cause the crash) let us know.
Hey, thanks for the quick response. I have been trying to load into the game and now am unable to., as it crashes at the same 95% mark as before. I updated my graphics drivers and Windows, and the problem persists. also I have noticed there is a machine gun turret discharge before the game crashes, if that helps. I wonder one of my mods affected the turrets in some way that is causing issues. How am I able to change those render thread settings outside of game? is there a .json that I can edit? Thanks again for your help
I finished following the other thread and updated my CPU drivers, and also I went into the config.ini and changed the max threads. I first tried 12 threads down to 4 to no success, and then went down from 4 to 1, and its still crashing. I have yet to update BiOS divers, but that is my next focus. any other tips?
This is weirdly reliable.
If you disable all mods (you can do this by opening the mod-list.json in the mods folder and replacing all but for the base mod the true with false) does it stop crashing?
I updated my Motherboard drivers as well. The many updates to my poor luddite PC includde: graphics, CPU, and motherboard driver updates. The problem sadly persists. next I will start removing mods one by one to try to find the culprit. many of the mods have been updated extremely recently (as in first to download Valerian's planets and a few others), so i expected some kinks to work out, but i cant even load the game now here are the log and dump files, as well as a mod list. thanks again for the help along the process though
edit:the actual CPU update was hidden behind another window somehow after several PC restarts, so I am finishing up actually updating. hopefully this will fix it.
the driver update did not work. I will have to sieve the mods to find which one isn't compatible with the others. I will post when I can get the game to run and both current and previous changlogs, but here are the most recent ones generated post-enlightenment(copious driver and system updates).
edit: disabling every mod fixed the problem, and I notice that it was defaulting to a space platform, so the gun turret was a red herring. i added numerous space platform mods, so I have narrowed my search slightly.
I tried disabling a few select space related mods, and I could get to the main menu with them, but I think if a space platform is shown on the main menu, it causes issues. here are the associated files and mod list. also noticed the dependencies param on Valerian's Planets in the mod are defined as "visible planets" and should be "Visible Planets in Space". not sure if this is the right place to try to help the mod authors
That is great news!!! at least people smarter than me are aware there are issues. Thank you so much, Loewchen, you have been an amazing help to me. i look forward to reading the patch notes when 2.0.24 goes live. so for now should i just go without the space platform-related mods and continue as normal, or play with them enabled to try to pinpoint the exact scenario that causes it? it seems like it is being handled so I shouln't try to troubleshoot. thoughts?
