I have a blueprint with two legendary artillery turrets fed via requester chests that I use within my base on Nauvis. I have enough research that a single shell one-shots a nest, even at max evolution. However, I see the turrets automatically firing pairs of shots at each nest frequently. My expectation is that if one turret directly shoots at a nest or worm (with enough damage to kill it), the other turret won't waste ammo on it. I'm not considering AoE/splash kills here, only ammo wasted by two turrets firing on the exact same location twice.

Re: [2.0.23] Automatic artillery overkilling nests, wasting ammo
The overkill calculation has a 5% tolerance for spawners - as long as your artillery doesn't do 5 or more percent damage more than the spawner has health, the artillery will fire twice to make sure it's dead, even if it regenerates a bit of health while the shots are flying.
Maybe overkill tolerance could be ignored when the expected damage is higher then max health of the target? Not really important, but maybe something to consider for version 2.1
See my report a few weeks ago.
