Isn't the ability to increase mining output a good reason to go into demolisher-territories?
I'm confused by this post. You know, you have to kill the demolisher to access the mines. Or else the thing from the FFF will happen.
You said "Since the only reason you would build in it's territory is to kill it". But isn't a second reason to get the resources in its territory? That is what I am not understanding in your argument

The reason you're killing it is to get the resources. You have to kill the the demolisher first to get to the resources later. Otherwise the video from the FFF will happen. If you build miners without killing the worm, it will destroy them. You can't build anything there before killing the worm. So the only reason to build, if the worm hasn't been killed yet, is to bait and kill the worm. So you can get the resources, that it is guarding while alive, since you can't get them until it's not alive. Because it's guarding them. So you must kill the worm to get the resources.

The reason you're killing it is to get the resources. [...] So you must kill the worm to get the resources.
You don't get resources by killing a demolisher. You get resources by building miners and other extraction machines. So, even after a demolisher has been killed, there remains a reason to build in its territory: to extract resources from its territory. If the only reason to build in its territory were to kill it, one would not want to build anything in its territory after it is killed.

Woah! This is really cool. I've always been a fan of worm-like enemies in games, and I'm excited to see that something similar is coming to Factorio.

Can't wait for mods to play around with these new monster types. It wouldn't be surprising to have a worm spawning mod that adds them to biter waves.

Terraria Eater of Worlds Mod, or the Mech Boss of the Worm that shoots lasers!

Or smaller Worms that can attack you like Biters do normally. So many new options!
Don't underestimate Landmines!
Biters bite, Spitters spit, Spawners spawn and Worms... worm? - No, they throw their vomit! They even wind up to directly hurl it at you! friggin Hurlers...

Is it me, though, or does there seem to be a lot of work left before the expansion launches in just one month? I hope they're able to finish it all up in time. I'm guessing there might be several significant patches post-launch to tweak things that don't make it for the 2.0 launch.
AFAIK, the game is already done, and they are just testing everything, and probably tuning somethings... or at least that what they said in a FFF whose number I can't remember
Yeah, I think you're right. The game is clearly playable from start to finish and apparently in pretty good shape. There were just some things mentioned in this FFF about placeholder explosion graphics and giving the demolishers a more sinusoidal motion (see quotations below). That said, the remaining changes are probably almost finished and so there's not necessarily a reason to think they won't be able to launch on-time.

From FFF 429:
This is my painted concept for the fissure progression. It's still used as a placeholder in the game but will be replaced with a final version at some point.
The demolishers aren't finished. Some graphics and other small details are still in progress, for example the eruption explosions are still the generic "huge explosion" but we're part way through a more appropriate lava-based animation that doesn't obscure the player so much. We're also intending for the Demolishers to have more sinusoidal motion but some other things need to be completed first.

Ok, now I understand, you simply don't want the demolisher to be passive

Wube made the demolisher passive on intention because it is far stronger than other enemies. So they give the player control over when to confront it. That the video will only happen to novice players is a given, though I would also assume many players would simply quit the game if their structures would be regularily destroyed.

Now I want a mod that allows me to use the Demolisher corpse as a fluid pipe. Would make a nice trophy :D

Now I want the DoG (from Terraria's Calamity mod) theme to play whenever a sandworm attacks. For those who don't know it :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Syn1mJVt7U (the whole theme)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opvuEVpl_PM (the final form's theme) #epic

Pollution visibility as a Research might be interesting, that way you dont know instantly whether a biter nest is polluted or not. Wondering if Mods can pull this off.

(that said, anyone can just enable debug settings to see all the info)

I love how the enemies mirror the vehicles that we make as the engineer:

biters: cars / tanks
worms: turrets
gleba pentapods: spidertron
vulcanus enemy: trains

there's one more thing left, the rocket itself!

I would love it if the final planet had a rocket-like enemy. The threat being that it can ascend past the frozen planet and threaten all of your bases and space platforms. It has the same freedom of movement that you, the player, has.

Hrrm the spots on Fulgora that were on the Map were quite large, maybe we get that type of Enemy there?

Another FFF with new information and interesting background.

I think the enemies in Factorio are good, but I don't want to be hindered too much from building my factory. That's why I think it's good that the enemies on Vulcanus are orientated torientally and that by destroying the enemy in a sector you can virtually clear it and then build there undisturbed.

But let's see how the fight against the Demolisher feels when you're playing yourself.
My Mods: Picklocks Fusion Power | Picklocks Inserter | Picklocks Lithium Polymer Accumulator | Picklocks rocket silo stats | Picklocks Set Inventory Filters | Picklocks QuickBar Import/Export | Picklocks Nauvis Cliff-Explosives

Imagine if the enemies on fulgora were robots that could build things to scrap your factory, like the upcoming neoplasm faction from a certain other factory/tower defence game. Essentially siege tactics.

Hope to see Fulgora enemies in the next FFF tomorrow.

Hmm, let's see.. not spiders, that is Gleba.. Not worms, that is Vulcanus.. hhhhmmmmmmm.. Flying brain things? How about a huge robot cockroach lol that is getting struck by lightning and zapping everything near it?

Or, or, how about a huge scrap heap robot that grabs your turrets and mounts them on itself?

I think it would be hard for them to make a really tall enemy though

Who knows?

How about AI controled mechas trying to follow the orders their creators who returned into oblivion have implanted in them ?

Question is, which Directive or detection System would they use? I am certain you cant really detect anything Electric on Fulgora because Lightning Storms, same goes for Noise and visual indicators. So the Storms must be on a day-night cycle sort of timing for Enemies to be able to detect the Player, while also serving as a power Source.

A Wall-E kind of Recycling Bot could go and trash-compact everything on the Planet, this compacted Trash is the stuff that you are mining, and if the Compactor Bots notice you while they are depositing Trash, they might thing you are more Trash they need to take care of.
