Preset in the mod's ui for different playstyles

Post by LoneWolf_LWP »

TL;DR
Preset in the mod's ui setting window for different playstyles

What ?
In the mod ui it would be nice to be able to save a set of mods under a nameble preset so you do not have to change it each time you want to play a different playstyle.
also when after playing a multiplayer map it keeps those mods active when loading up another map that was started with other mods active.

for example.
preset A : mods to load for the main game.
preset B : mods load for a sandbox/testmap
Preset C : mods to load for ...
etc etc
Why ?
Easier to combine the mods per playstyle instead of each time running down the list of mods activating/deactivating the ones you want.

*edited to be clear i meant in the mod settings window

Try sync mods on load of a save with desired Mod constellation

Thanks, never noticed that button in the load game menu (top right left icon)
I had to google it to find a YT video to show where it was. because I was looking through all the settings but could not find it.

So i guess it kinda exist already for saves, but not to start a new game. unless I'm also looking over that option somewhere.

I'd consider this a workaround and not a true solution.

Kind of agree, but here is the modpack suggestion marked as implemented

esp. viewtopic.php?p=529293#p529293

Maybe it differs from this suggestion slightly

I think of this suggestion as relating to mod settings. And while it is possible to create a bunch of unique saves with various settings, that's a little cumbersome compared to being able to define mod setting presents.

Though, re-reading the OP, he does discuss mods and not settings. Hm.

Even settings are addressed with the sync mod feature. (Note: the runtime settings are saved in the savefile anyway)

Should this maybe be merged with the "mod pack" suggestion? They sound like the same thing under two different names.

Mod pack: load dependencies of a mod.
This: have different “sets” of mod-settings.

Which is quite similar to
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=83688 Mod Folders

Which is nothing else than the better usage of the already existing mod-directory startup option. viewtopic.php?p=489655#p489655

The game at its core doesn't support the concept of "mod sets" which is what you describe. To change that would mean re-writing how the game uses mods which isn't likely to happen.

What you want is a launcher that lets you configure mods as packs of mods and then launch the game with those.
So if that would be implemented, all what’s missing here is, that the mod settings are stored in the directory and not globally. There was a suggestion about that, but I couldn’t find that.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

That's already how mod settings work; they're stored in the mods folder in mod-settings.dat. So if you use the command line option to set the mods folder you have mod packs.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

So I guess I will be creating a bunch of shortcuts/folders for each type of gamestyle/combination of mods I play then. not very intuitive to have to do it by commandline though. also this will create alot of duplicate files as some mods are used more times.

so basesicly the question then becomes,

"is it maybe possible we could select the folder from ingame?"

then after the selection the game can relaunch like its doing now each time you add/remove a mod from the selection list.

Ah. Nice. Good to know. I’ll try that out.

I cannot know, but from experience it sounds to me, like this will come, but still takes a while.

I think the reload will be still needed. Changing is not possible IMHO. But I think for each mod-folder the caches could be written separately, so restart would take only 10 seconds or so.

And duplicate files: that would require a local repository. Not the badest idea, because then updating that repo and picking the newest mod versions out could be separated tasks.
