Have the aliens given up in 0.17.49?

With update 0.17.49 we saw some changes in the way alien attacks are orchestrated:
Reduced the UPS impact of a large number of biters trying to pathfind. (71865)
In my game it now looks like the aliens have given up. With 0.17.48, I had regular attacks on my base that looked like this:

Now, with 0.17.49 my defenses are mostly silent. I rarely get attacked anymore, and when I do these attacks look like this:

The kill statistics give a nice indication of the overall effect. The image is for the last 50 hours of gameplay and the drop shows when the patch was installed:

Around the time that the attacks ceased, nor after, next to no spawning pits were destroyed. Pollution absorption levels also show a general upwards trend:

Does anyone have a similar experience? I rather liked having to put some effort into defending the base :D

With the change in 0.17.51 the aliens are now attacking again. Not quite as strongly as they did before, but they are definately showing their opinion about my presence :D

Yesterday I launched my first rocket in the current playthrough and I had the feeling, that attacks started to be much more frequent almost immediately.

Not sure if this is just a feeling but I wouldn't be suprised when the devs pulled a sneaky on us.
