Hi,

I just swapped to 0.17 and loaded my old 0.16 base. It's a quite nice base with 130 trains and over 670 rocket launches.

But my surprise came from my defenses being overrun in seconds. I was a simple double wall with nearly continuous laser turrets line which provided sufficient defense until 0.17.

Las turret are +300% damage ans +230% speed but are wrecked very quickly.

Did you feel increase in pests power ?

My guess would be that it's the biter spawners not absorbing infinite pollution. Can you have a look at the pollution spread 0.16 vs 0.17? I think that in 0.17 it will be much much further.

I am desperately trying to find confirmation on this. I have Laser Turret 23 please tell me I haven't lost all this research?

The bugs are more aggressive and deadly.

I nearly died in a new default settings Death World. And that hasn’t happened in a long time.

I like it. But yeah, the changes are going to be a bit rough I think.

Well, I started my game in 0.14 (I think) in a "train setting" (no expansion). I remembered that in 0.14 and 0.15, I was nearly NEVER attacked (I even stop putting walls and turrets.

Then in 0.16 expansion reset and I needed some wall and I overlaid some laser turrets. 10 repair bots with 50 packs were enough to repair attacks.

On the other hand, improved bitter attack is kind of nice, but the settings are quite hard to manage for new players. There should be a very simple "biter attack power"

The issue may come from an old save brought to 0.17. The wave of bitter is enormous

Ah, you were right, I was at +580% damage in 0.16. I'll try to improve my defenses. before migrating to 0.17.

Quoting myself, when replaying 0.16, there are the same pack of bitters. But those don't attack in one block, the stall not far from the wall and attack in smaller groups.

Those acid attacks are deadly too. turrets falls like flies. I'm improving the defenses, taking electics far behing, increasing wall thickness and setting double row of turrets. I'll also add a station for importing new repair materials, roboports and drone to carry them around.

My walls are very very long

When you say he was right? In what way? Did you lose all your infinite research?

My las turret power when from +580% to +300%, I've to redo some science, by my science factory has to be redone.
Combined with the new acid attack and the "go all in" of the bitters, my defenses didn't work.

I've doubled or tripled the defenses and it work nicely.


In the end I don't know if I'll continue my map because
- That's not the intent of the devs for us to test stuff
- Many recepee changed, especially science I've to rebuild a lot.

I have had a 191 hr Base that is not quite up to mega yet. However, I had put some serious effort into defense at one point during 0.16. Then I realized that I had over built my Rail wall defenses and started scaling them back a bit.

Now in 0.17, my defenses are holding 99% of the time. I have had a few breaches mostly when a critical connection failed (piping or power). I am still working on getting my new science setups working before I worry about defense improvements.

Attached a save if anyone is interested. It is mostly development focused base. So it is messy.
