Your rail is lovely. I don't recognize the symbols (started playing at 0.9.8) - are they from an older version or a mod?

How do you calculate how much accumulators capacity you need to make it thru the night?

Simple rules:
  • If the accumulators drain more than half over night, you build more accumulators
  • If the accumulators take to long (=more than the half daytime) to fully recharge, you build more solar panels
Then you also have enough power for unplaned biter attacks

Here you see a zone of large areas with solar power. Everything is done with the two blueprints - i have marked them green. When the roboportgrid is in the way the gaps can be filled manually (or manually directed) without a blueprint. The accumulator-blueprint is good for it without messing up too much.

And this is a solar dedicated area within the regular roboport-grid. I made a third blueprint that fits between two roboports with enough gaps to walk and large poles to connect the roboports while the solarflield have not been build yet or are ripped down. Nothing is as bad as to cut the power of a roboport.

Nope. As you can see in the picture. If they would max out there would be a blue top visible in the right chart. Meanwhile I built more and got to a point where the panels only have to produce 5-6 KW each during the day. So they are only aroun 10% of the maximum and could load nearly everything within seconds.
