Coal from burned trees
Like the title proposes, lets say you flame thrower a massive forest, and most of the trees become dead trees, what if you got coal from those trees (or maybe charcoal if they would add it)
Re: Coal from burned trees
Sounds pretty neat. Burn a tree, it turns black, and you deconstruct it for coal. I like it.
Re: Coal from burned trees
That would be quite bothersome : you'd have to get coal for less energy than the live tree containsso maybe what ? 1 coal per tree ? a 1k tree forest would lead to less coal than one tile in a patch, and yet be a pain in the ass to collect.

Re: Coal from burned trees
I'd like to see... Stick wood in a furnace, get (char)coal (Like in minecraft). of course since you're making it to use in places where the game uses coal already, it would have to be coal, not charcoal, because there's currently no provision in the recipe definitions to say "This item, or that item", so, you can't say "Coal or Charcoal", meaning you either have to use the same item, or duplicate the recipe.
Re: Coal from burned trees
Trees harvest for 4 wood. For a direct 1:1 energy return you'd need to get 2 coal instead. But not all trees burn into charcoal. A large portion die outright, which you can test for yourself by setting any forest on fire.
Anyway anything that amounts to less than a few thousand coal is not a balance issue. The question is if it'd be neat, which it would be. I wholeheartedly support burning forests down for more resources!
