Upgradeable Blueprints

Post by Rovelo »

TL;DR
The ability to upgrade existing structures or remove blocking ones to place a new structure

What ?
I'm looking to create a base blueprint book where I'm able to put the next blueprint on top of the existing structures. But as the game progresses and you get faster belts it becomes increasingly complicated having to add new lines of smelters when you hit a bottleneck due to the existing belts speed. I would like to be able to replace yellow belts with red or blue belts, stone furnaces with steel furnaces etc, similar to how you can do it by hand, but by using blueprints to remove existing structures that are in the way (As you can do with trees and rocks by holding shift) and/or simply upgrade.
Why ?
This is mostly a personal request, but i believe quite a few people would be happy with the ability to deconstruct only the stuff that blocks building, rather than having to manually remove, click individual buildings or deconstruct everything aswell as the ability to upgrade existing structures (Maybe somewhat like the Upgrade Builder and Planner mod?) Basically a quality of life improvement.

This can also upgrade blueprints and will go vanilla in 0.17.

Do you have a source for upgrade planner being in vanilla in 0.17?

As a concept we plan to have something like upgrade planner in vanilla,
The mod specifically won't just be added, so specific things like the blueprint upgrading might not be included.

Sounds awesome! Upgrading is definitely the most useful part, the deconstruct function would be very situational and mainly useful for overlapping blueprints to save time

Will upgrading include a module planner? It's pretty tricky to add, remove or upgrade modules.

Wait, upgrade planner's vanilla in 0.17? That's great! I keep wanting to get into mods, but you keep taking about half my reasons and throwing them into vanilla. Rail tanker, upgrade planner, (hopefully) good RSO-esque generation in 0.17, research queues, a crafting tree viewer thing, what's next? Recursive blueprints? FARL? Robot army?
