For the challenge of doing it (that's half the reason anyone cracks software anyway). Not to mention you, as a consumer (rather you paid or not), want the best experience possible, extra popups do not give that. I have seen a few pirated games with bug fixes (even minor and obscure ones) that the actual releases NEVER saw, but of course I've also seen pirated material that acted as nothing more than a transport for malware. As for Game Dev Tycoon...I pirated it for no reason other than because of the news, I was curious. It was a little interesting but it could have been better and it didn't sound like they intended to improve it, so I didn't bother paying for it (and haven't played or even thought of it since).
