All you're suggestion is essentially a preset during starting a new game.
When you start a new game you can pick how rare or common and how much yield you will receive for all of the ores/stone/oil. You can also set the water and terrain segment.

At what point do you start a new world?
For me I did rocket defense, then maybe 2 or 3 other worlds not completed (I would hit blue science and eventually reach a point to where I didn't plan well enough and science took to long), then MP on ...

Looking back I really don't know how I did it that fast.. even if I tried now I probably couldn't do that haha.. I just remember looking for a good spawn, I had sort of a corner that I just walled in the 2 sides and there was all the resources I needed really close. I may have adjusted the settings ...

My first game I achieved rocket defense in under 15 hours.. every game after that has been much longer. I guess because I have been doing more things (trains, robots, power armors, etc) and not just gunning straight to the end. I only wish I had saved it before placing the rocket defense

Just going to add to this rather than make a new post..
It happens when the game is paused also, I guess because the menu is up.
I have left a game paused when we both ran to the store thinking the other party could join and unpause if they beat me home and when I got back I was at the main menu.

Lag will always be an issue, but for whoever hosts the game they get to set the latency, it's default is 99ms but usually that is to low unless you are close to eachother.. I normally play at around 140-160 with a guy from the UK.

With he next major update they are implementing the space floor to build on. With this they said they now have the ability for levels and building. I think the village people should just look like the aliens from the very early versions of this game, they were human looking, and have them with another language like suggested above seems to fit well. It would all just be a matter of balancing then, how to trade, what to trade, how much pollution ...
