One thing I know is that bots prefer to use a chest that already contains the material. So to increase Tha chance of using the nearby chests, remove the stone from the other chests and put some stone in the chest you want them to use.
I hardly use storage chests for anything other than junk. Why ...

How do bots decide which storage chest to use?
So I have two train inputs for my base, one in the North and one in the South.
When my trains containing stone come in from the South, it feeds to an active provider chest. I have several storage chests a few tiles from the active provider chests.
However instead of using those storage chests ...

Re: How much rocket fuel do trains use up in a typical megabase?
So lets say 50 double headed trains running 100% of the time. 50 * 2 * 10 = 1000 rocket fuel per hour, or about 16.7 rocket fuel per minute. That sounds quite mild, especially compared to the amount of rocket fuel consumed by the rocket itself.

How much rocket fuel do trains use up in a typical megabase?
I'm just looking for ballpark numbers in order to plan out my oil refinery setup.
Also for that matter, how much energy does a single train use while moving?

Idea: combined red-blue-print
Often times, I just want to move a huge chunk of a factory. So I first use the blue to copy it, open inventory, switch to redprint and then delete it, then switch back to blue to paste it somewhere else. This gets tedious.
What I want is a "cut" operation, let's call it a greenprint. So I'll ...

Re: Chunk-aligned modular railway system with LTN Stations
I like it! By the way, your high throughput cross seems like it can support a 7 car buffer. Why don't you do LCCCCCL instead?

Re: My approach to rails (junction, single header)
I tend to avoid pre-manufacturing because I want the system to be automatically manage how much of stuff such as steel and circuits to produce based on demand (with a sizable buffer to handle short-term changes). Pre-manufacturing is nice for train throughput, but you then have to control how much ...

Science costs with prod 3 calculations?
So now that I've done the calcs for 1 RPM, I want to do the calcs for the required science packs. Do these numbers look right?

Re: Help calculating materials for One Rocket
I believe you've over estimated oil, because of this change:
> Reduced the plastic bar recipe requirement of petroleum gas 30 -> 20
In your recipe, you're still using 1.5 (15) petrol per plastic rather than 10.

Re: Help calculating materials for One Rocket
Thanks guys, yes the difference was due to the chemical plant change, doh. Completely forgot about that.
The wiki is definitely outdated. I think you (or I) still have some things wrong even excepting the chemical plant module change. Here's what I'm calculating:

Help calculating materials for One Rocket
I'm trying to calculate for myself the material needed for one rocket. I'm comparing my results to this post and also the wiki getting slightly different results, especially for oil-based products. Can someone help me understand why my results are different? Both lists assume full prod 3 modules ...

Re: [MOD 0.14] SmartTrains 1.1.7
To read the contents of a train you need to use a "smart" train stop (and the train must be in automatic mode at the station). Connect your wire to the combinator on the smart station and you will see all of the signals (including cargo) for the train.

Re: [MOD 0.14] SmartTrains 1.1.7
Hi, I'm trying to read the contents of the cargo wagons of my train.
Example attached.
The train has one cargo wagon, with some iron plates in it. I attach a wire to a light, and set it to enabled if iron plates > 0. However, it doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?
