Re: Minimal Server Latency of 6 ticks

The issue is quite fundamental to how the game synchronizes it's game updates, network updates and how things are buffered. Hornwitser took a look at at the many issues causing unnecessary delays. In Version 1.1.43 you should see latencies as low as 2 ticks (33ms) on LAN. A friend of mine and me ar...

Re: Version 1.1.40

Thanks for that ban FAQ post, that is very helpful! I have one question to add, perhaps near the appeal one as it is related: Is it made clear to the user that they were banned by a decision of Wube's system and not merely by the individual servers, or how would one know to appeal? (I sometimes got ...

Re: Version 1.1.15

Just one nitpick... shouldn't you guys be partying on the weekends? If this is what you do to relax then: by all means... but you do have me a little worried here :)

Either way, loving the fog-of-war building! I've wanted to have that for a long time now :D

Btw, the steam locomotive is also burning stuff, maybe a slight orange glow from the cabin would look cool. :)
Woa, how has nobody thought of this yet? Is there a mod that does this? I would loove glowy trains!

Re: Friday Facts #362 - Menu simulation, Spidertron, Ghost building, Confirm button

I am very impressed with these improvements. Most of these are things I ran into and real additions to the game, and I recognize that some of them must have been quite a pain to implement (since they were pushed back for a long time, like the connections in blueprints). I had not expected this after...

Re: "Cannot reach" on 2/3rds of the public servers with more than one person in it

I see, that's probably the answer then!

Is there a way to enable connecting through Steam Networking without including Steam's DRM package in the website download? Or perhaps filter out the unreachable (only-through-Steam-reachable) servers for those who don't have Steam?

Re: "Cannot reach" on 2/3rds of the public servers with more than one person in it

if properly configured anyone can host a server without needing to be using the steam version on any parties computer. Right, but if they didn't? Can Steam players join other Steam players regardless of firewall/NAT, while if I use the directly downloaded version of Factorio I can't join that serve...

I'm also using the standalone release. (Always pay makers directly when possible, is the idea :))

Re: "Cannot reach" on 2/3rds of the public servers with more than one person in it

I have been having this problem since I started playing multiplayer again, which was either right before or right after switching to 1.0 For me this issue has existed for as long as I remember (probably 0.16.x, maybe 0.17.0; before that, maybe if there was a public server list, but I wouldn't remem...

Re: "Cannot reach" on 2/3rds of the public servers with more than one person in it

Thanks for checking Rseding. Re-checking, I still can't connect to it. As another random datapoint, the other match for 'kom' is 'LEAAAN KOM GAMEN' and I can't connect to that either. Doing UDP traceroutes to the respective IPs and ports, I do get close to the destination host before the responses s...

"Cannot reach" on 2/3rds of the public servers with more than one person in it

A lot of servers have "Cannot reach" as ping and I can't connect to them with the message "Could not establish network communication with server". I figure that a few might not know that they had to do port forwarding, but it also applies to games with people in it (other than th...

Re: Friday Facts #358 - Alien decoratives & Polluted water

Sad about the launch party, but the responsible decision! We have to make sure we catch up some other time. Personally I'm more the lan party type than the party type though, in case a few days playing factorio on lan at some point would be an option :) That polluted water looks amazing by the way :...

Plz re-compile (dont forget linux!) and re-release the old versions of the game! :)
You can find the stable versions of previous releases on https://factorio.com/download/archive.
Any plans to include 0.1, as shown in the screenshots, on that page?

Re: Friday Facts #352 - New website

What I like a lot about the current site is that it's not a mess of javascript and megabytes of large external resources being included. It's just google analytics, jquery via google, and google youtube at the moment (which sounds like it's bad, and it could be better, but it's pretty good compared ...

Re: Friday Facts #350 - Electric mining drill redesign

I kinda feel like the timing between drill movements (or "dwell time") should both be longer and independent of the effective drill speed. Seeing it move like every half-second with twelve beacons looks... Wasteful? The amount of "working" movement doesn't fit the amount of outp...

Re: Version 0.18.26

Changes Crafting machines will now refund item ingredients when crafting is cancelled before finishing. Is this reverting the change in 0.17.0 or is that something else? Bugfixes Fixed that canceling production in assembling machine did return the products in progress.
