Congrats, you broke me

I was willing to work around the pathetically anemic rockets, ridiculous asteroid densities, deliberately obtuse rocket engines, lazy coding of platform trains, too many cases of challenging my patience rather than intellect to even list. Then I faced big asteroids. Nope. I'm not finishing it. And I ...

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers

Is there a way to make a 3way rail intersection that will give priority to the traffic that is currently on a straight line instead of merge/turn ? i.e. forcing merging to wait. I want to have many subbases and I can afford for them to wait for their free slot on a "highway".
But currently a train ...

Given that there appear to be some errata on the wiki, can someone confirm the above is correct? It doesn't make any sense - where would quality biters be coming from if you can't have quality eggs? What is the dev intended method to obtain quality eggs? (I can think of ...

Re: Minor oversight in message after deleting space platform

Thanks for the report however that's working as intended. Deleting a platform just marks it to be deleted later. It still technically exists and can be recovered until that time window expires - and if it gets destroyed before the time window expires it's no longer recoverable.

Well, yeah, I ...

Nope. It was deleted by me. Within the last 5 minutes. Because it was clearly going to be destroyed by carbonic asteroids

Re: 1x1 containers have never been so inadequate as they are now

We already have them in the form of tanks. It's 2x3, blueprintable, and placeable on even non-grid locations. It can defend itself with PLD. It can even be carried over belts. It has middle-click per-cell item pinning and expandable inventory space. It can request items and trash unrequested ...

Re: 1x1 containers have never been so inadequate as they are now

So instead of a few parallel belts - sometimes using only one lane per item - we have ghastly, expensive, voluminous spaghetti.

Yum. I see no issues with this. :P It's a sort of puzzle.

Also (please correct me if I'm wrong!), I don't recall loaders ever being a part of the base game; I think ...

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers

I have a followup question.
Based on the wiki - I should be expecting this rocket to be launching belts. It is not. Is this fixed in newer versions, or is something else going on?

It looks like the request (more precisely the group it belongs to) on the platform is not enabled.
The rocket ...

The wiki talks about this a bit here:

https://wiki.factorio.com/Cargo_landing_pad
The landing pad can only receive one stack of items at a time.
Surely that is incorrect. It can receive 10 stacks?

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers

Is there a way to manually offload something when you have a landing pad and requests?

Surely this can't be a thing. I stick items in the orbital drop slots manually, don't care where they go as long as they go to the surface, and nothing happens. It is misc stuff, making a request for each ...

Re: 1x1 containers have never been so inadequate as they are now

Tentatively I'm going to say that they are simply not really needed. For quality, use robots; they can handle it far superior to any belt solution. Linked chests are much superior for train balancing. Large containers are, at best, a pretty minor convenience.

I don't use logistics bots. I hate ...

Re: 1x1 containers have never been so inadequate as they are now

I'm not really sure why the choice was made to not add more containers?

…

People like me can cheese even the late game by sticking 8 assemblers around it in lieu of making a proper build.

Well, you answered your own question

I stated that 6x6 containers are too cheeseable - perhaps ...

1x1 containers have never been so inadequate as they are now

I'm not really sure why the choice was made to not add more containers? But clearly it was a deliberate choice, as there are a large range of mods the devs could have drawn from, or drawn inspiration from if the author wasn't cooperative.

I've used them in at least the last 10 modded playthroughs ...

Re: Gleba is very broken, if you aren't a speedrunner

I had some time to keep playing.

So I can report back - yes, tesla turrets wreck the local fauna. They aren't too expensive to build. They are too expensive to run.

Not when I'm there and doing stuff. But when I'm not. I've never had a base which had a grey mode was 80% of its peak consumption ...

I would strongly suggest you try it. Tesla turrets and the Tesla gun are very effective on Gleba.

In the process of trying it now.

Re: Gleba is very broken, if you aren't a speedrunner

Hate to say it, but this really sounds like a skill/experience issue.

The easiest way for me to wrestle a foothold on Gleba,. in fact also on a maximized enemies playthrough, was importing a Tank with a pre-loaded equipment grid (focused on exoskeletons because it's better to not get stomped on ...

Gleba is very broken, if you aren't a speedrunner

Spoilage mechanics is interesting. The new enemies are interesting.

The combination of the two is catastrophic, if you are the type who has never obtained (or attempted to obtain for that matter) any of the speed achievements.

You quickly (actually, slowly, but inevitably) find yourself basically ...
