I suppose you can still do so by just surrounding the nests with turrets with priorities enabled but it certainly becomes a much bigger hassle now.
ESPECIALLY if you constantly get the "turrets are firing" warning flashing on your screen. If this has become an intentional gameplay ...

I guess this is why you should just always circuit disable the inserter between the assembler and chest based on if the chest has more than x amount of item in it...

I wasn't sure whether it is a feature or a bug, but after reading through, the decision is to revert it to the 0.16 behaviour:

- Disabling station with train waiting in it doesn't force the train to departure anymore so it works as it worked in 0.16.
It looked like a useful change for 0.17 ...

I'd say that's probably working as intended, as if the developers wanted damage from cliff explosives they could have just added the option to blow up cliffs with normal grenades. That seems to be a bug.
I'd like to remind you that the version number in square brackets in the title of the post should be the last version you encountered the bug in, so if you encountered it in 0.17.3 you'd put [0.17.3] in the title, but if you didn't encounter it in 0.17.3 yet but encountered ...
