I can't play the game once I get off Nauvis. It's my third time getting out of Nauvis, made the nicest ever Nauvis base, everything prepared.
Then - first obstacle the spaceship, can't move on it. no chests, no holes in the ship and other annoying stuff. Tried several times, got bored, copied a BP ...

One red belt of stone should be enough to supply 48 Steel furnaces.
I had a shortage of stone bricks, made sure there was enough stone coming in, made sure all belts are red, even remade the furnace stack elsewhere, but it did the same thing - at all time there are no more than 24 furnaces working ...

You can check how it works on Nauvis, large patches, evenly distributed, means less train stations.

I use 17% frequency, 600/600 size and richness, for all resources.
Works well on Nauvis, on Vulcanus with these settings there are tons of Calcite and Sulphuric patches, but very few Tungsten and Coal patches, I had to reveal the map with 4000 radius just to find a few:

I feel kind of forced to solve puzzles, instead of having all the tools (somewhat accessible - like cliff explosives and elevated rails, or bots and walking on the space platform) and be able to make anything anywhere.

Agree. Why can't I walk on the space platform, or use bots, or have an inventory?
Make achievements for the way you want the game to be played, do not impose it.

After researching Inserter capacity bonus 2, stack size should show 2, it shows 1:
It only shows 2 after I check and uncheck the Override stack size box.
Edit: Stack size is correctly displayed after the inserter moves an item, no need to check and uncheck the Override box.

Inserter does not pick up copper ore for stone furnace
Created the row of furnaces with inserters, added 50 coal to furnaces before adding electricity, now the inserter will not pick up copper ore. Need to manually remove coal from furnaces, then the inserter starts working.
