Let's start a Marathon + RSO

Be sure to have some time and did tried it before, because it's a huge game and very frustrating for speedrunners !

I would love to build something giant, and since Marathon sounds more like the real gameplay that factorio should be,
I'm looking for people that are in the same mood. I'm french, cannot really speak on good mic, plenty of time front of me :)

We can discuss for more mods, and probably play with very small/low aliens, because trust me it become hardcore after 15 hours.
In my single player I added alien temple mod but I don't really feel any change.

To be 3 or 4 would be just awesome so let me know if you're up to !

If this becomes a daily thing I will happily join for some evenings or weekends. Marathon+Resource Spawner Overhaul sounds good. Not too many mods please

Combining Marathon and RSO is gonna be insane. I play a MArathon game with a few additional mods now, we are 35 hours in and we have like 5-6 more hours to get to even producing red circuts at all. And we are already out of our first resource patches, we barelly made it to the laser turrets and biters almost killed us 3 or 4 times (had to rebuild quite a lot).

Or you wana be sneaky and play in peacfull mode? :D

I've just started a game with RSO and marathon. With the additional plottwist of only having coal at the starting area + treefarm mod (so wood as primary fuel + source of coal) and the scalar mod (set to all research costing 10 times as much ingredients).

I think it's gonna be a looooong game... One hour in and I already got 12 tree farms going though. But that's all I have basically.

I'm trying few solo map with only Marathon but in Sandbox (no character), and playing with settings. So "very rich" is not that interesting, and no character is kind of cheating, since you fly to discover terrains and you can do some shower of grenades the neighbours, but it's a cool experience if you're bored to always try building too far from your character. Also outpost is super easy to settle. I will start a Marathon + RSO soon.

I'm wondering if we can play multiplayer in sandbow mode?

So, I spent like 2 evenings on tinkering RSO and end up with this kind of generation:
- Very few aliens cause I'm super scared early attacks in the game.
- Not so small but not so rich deposites (maximum 2500 ores, maybe to 3500 sometimes but very rare)
- Oil minimum by group of 5. Sometimes they tend to spawn 3 or 4 times together, I don't know if it's bad or not, because it's still quite rare.
- A bit richer starting area.

I'm ready to play, I have Marathon 0.5.1 and RSO 1.0.7 with my congif.lua to share, and I prefer vanilla everything after all, since we can always add mod later on.

I'm ok to start alone but that would be not the point here, so I will be online as much as possible on TeamSpeak, Facebook (Guillaume Ohz) and Evolve (but this one create me sometimes pixel bending).

Again, it's going to be like 5 hours of game before automating green circuits, 10 hours before getting rid of burner mining drill, at least 25/30h starting blue science

I actually prefer the ore fields to be far apart but big/rich - so if I take the time to make a rail line and a rail stop, it wouldn't be obsolete in 20 minutes...

Ok you're right, let's make them smaller and richer,
the goal that each outpost will last long but not produce enough is the best idea actually, push you to have several outposts.

DAY #1

We started well with SillyFly !
We're meeting again tomorrow 4-5pm (France/Czech Rep time) on Team Speack, anyone is very welcome to join.

You need Marathon and RSO, and don't forget to ask our 2 modified files:
- Final-data-fixes.lua for Marathon to craft steam engines in assembling machines (Thank you so much, Choumiko)

- And our RSO setup in config.lua

Here after 6 hours:

- Cars and first train done, no attack from bitters so far, in transition to the middle sized factory, beginning of green science and automating basic stuff.

By the way we discover that if you're missing a file, or don't have exactly the same game and mods setup, the game keep synchronising every 5 seconds (and synch means 2mn for me to download again and again the map). Obvious for most of you, but keep in mind if you're noobie like me.

DAY #3

Twinsen joined the team yesterday, it's very awesome to talk with a dev while playing together.
He teached us to jump into wagon =D
On the road killing bitters
We basically are done with all basic production, solar research, military/turrets upgrades, laser turrets and oil production. Few other things and we are done with Red+Green science pack. We need just to do it x10 production to approach blue science possibilities. My RSO settings make actually the map very easy about spawning aliens but I have no clue if it was possible to survive in other ways. Ores are super rare, pretty well defended and I'm very happy about it.

You're very welcome to join us anytime ! We don't much know when we will play again, but we will probably meet up any evening, around 8pm (UTC +1 [France-Czech Rep]) on Team Speak.

Here is our main trainstation and an almost finished factory of red circuits:

DAY #5

After hours of connecting trouble, we improved few stuff.

Advanced cracking oil and Military 3 finally reached. Electricity 2, and so super large patch of solar will coming soon.
We are about 3 Iron, 2 Copper, 3 Coal (1 already emtpy) and 1 Oil outposts. We are thinking export smelting and green circuits factory since I noticed that you need a very little bit more.

I heard that factorio is a game with large map but that's not the point of view of Twinsen.
He is a dev, don't try to convince him. And as a dev, he blows us with this:
