My idea is a conveyor belt tile which slopes upwards so that objects can then "fall" off the end into a container such as a chest.
Seeing as this would be far better than using inserters, perhaps a special container is needed. My other idea was to then make cranes which could lift these containers onto a train carriage. This would mean that train stations no longer need many long inserters; a crane and a few containers could be used instead.
This might also make a nice mod if any modders see this! I think slipstream chests is something similar but i think seeing the conveyorbelt slope upwards and objects falling off the end into a container would be really nice. A crane with some simple animation would also be really neat.

I let it standalone, cause your suggestion includes the 3rd Dimension, which I like.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
