Train automation HELP PLEASE

Post by Proxfam »

Hey my name's Kane, i'm trying to get a train to run from a base to another base further up anyways the train no paths and no matter what I do it won't work. I get the basic idea of how the train automation system works but I have trouble every now and then, I've attached a couple images for reference. If you see something wrong that needs to be changed please reply, I need an answer quick... my factory is dying. Cheers!

The right track is signaled to be south only as can be seen in the top picture. Generally your signaling makes no sense, if you have only one train on it you don't need any signals, if you have multiple trains on a track for both direction you need bypass areas and can not have signals on open track. I suggest you finish the train tutorial before using trains.

Hey, I saw your reply on my post and I know I could just not use signals on my track but there are intersections that need them apparently and I did the tutorial beforehand but I was still confused.

For intersections you need a chain signal before the intersection and a normal one after. The chain signals checks the next signal ahead. If a train blocks the intersection, the exit signal is red. So is the chain signal. So a train will wait before entering the intersection

For a Y-merge place a normal signal before the merge on each track. You don't need signals for splits

If you want to run multiple trains you should have a dual track system with dedicated tracks for each direction. And place regular signals now and then so several trains can use a track. Large power poles can be used to run power in the middle

Yeah I got the intersection part, below are the 2 intersections the train runs through and it seems to work fine it's just the part down the bottom that seems to stuff up the autopilot thing, there's nothing down there that should stuff it up

As said you need chain signals:
https://wiki.factorio.com/Tutorial:Train_signals

This is old, but still applies (mostly. The stuff at the end about station orientation has been long fixed):

Also, the signals on both sides of a track are if you want to run a train in both directions on that one track. If you have dual tracks they only get a single signal, so a train can only go in one direction.
Those two ways can be used together in a single system. For example terminus stations like you have would have the dual signals so trains can go in and out.
