I've often wanted to add custom labels to chests and perhaps some other things that would be visible either in mouseover or in detailed mode (or both).
E.g I have two chests feeding a long line of assemblers. One is supposed to add copper, other steel. If I forget what chest takes what I can clog up the system. If I could add custom labels to a chest it would make it much easier.
I'm not sure how the details of the feature could be implemented. I would guess a special input key (combination) when over an entity could pop up a dialog taking the label or something similar.
Also, it would be nice if those labels could optionally be seen on the map when cursor is on them. Possibly add a checkbox when label is added to make it visible on map.
Custom labels/signs to entities

Re: Custom labels/signs to entities
For that case I would prefer filtered stacks in chests (like wagons), cause something like signs (planning) will be implemented in the game.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Re: Custom labels/signs to entities
Mmm, yes. Filters in chests would also be awesome for a ton of other reasons.
If signs are already planned then that would be good enough for me personally. For some reason I thought being able to add labels to any entity would be easier than a whole new entity.
