Need help with tank

Hello Factorio community, I'm sure that 90% of us are aware that there is now tanks in the new versions and I have just recently researched them an built one; But heres my problem. When I right click on the tank I see two slots for weapons and ammo,one being the tank cannon and the other being a in-build SMG I think inside the tank. I'd like to know how to switch between the two weapons as I find it a waste of shells firing at biters and I also get surrounded by them in my tank.

afaik you switch weapons in the tank the same way you switch weapons in the character, the Q key.
