Allow Upgrade Planner to start from empty for modules

Post by conn11 »

TL;DR
Extend the functionality of the upgrade planner to upgrade buildings from an empty slot with modules.

What ?
Pretty straight foreward, buildings and beacons should be automatically filled with modules via the upgrade planner, without prior manual insertion or via bp-workaround. I suggest to use the empty slot on the left and [module] on the right in the upgrade planner interface.
Why ?
Upgrade differnt tiers of modules or building is sufficently coverd by the upgrade planner. Arguably to module buildings up, is upgrading them to. Besides manual placement or an akward workaround with a red- and bluprint, the process is insufficently automated. Although being a rather edge case scenario, the upgrade planner moduling could be a great QoL. Esspecially in later game with e.g. bulk amount of yet empty miners waiting for some modules. As plus the inferface wouldn't need to be alterated.
I can't think of any other "blank upgrades" then for modules, but maybe I'm overlooking something.

Upgrade planners: Empty slot to module fill unpopulated module slots

Post by LRTNZ »

I have started to use the upgrade planner of late to manage bulk upgrades of machines to higher tiers
of speed modules with the logistic network. However, I have got some arrays of machines that I want to upgrade,
which I am yet to put any modules into. What I would like to be able to do is have an empty slot in the
"from" column in the upgrade template stand for an empty slot in a machine, and the "to" slot
in that instance be the module that is to be inserted into an empty slot in a machine the upgrade template
is being applied to.

This would then allow modules to be inserted into an empty slot in a machine, using an upgrade planner, as shown below:

I like this. Changing modules seems annoyingly hard and cumbersome given how versatile bots otherwise are.

Though implementation wise i think it'd be more userfriendly to have an explicit "empty slot" icon that needs to be selected. That makes it obvious to users who don't know this otherwise "hidden" feature and it would also allow removing modules completely.

Technically a double post but the idea is pretty good and convenient. +1
