boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurred
boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurred
I have attempted to look this error up but, based on the few searches with each unique word I was unable to find a solution. I am able to play 0.11.5 with no issues, but during my attempts to upgrade to 0.11.7 and 0.11.8 I have been getting this error. I have tried uninstalling and/or deleting the Factorio folder under appdata. When i open a single player or multi-player game and attempt to save I get this error "boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurred". Then the game is unplayable as the error continues to popup as the game keeps attempting to save. Any ideas?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
Windows 8 - Try running the program under an Administrator access or other. I was running the game under a limited "Guest" account and got the same error. When I moved to a password protected account, I was able to save the game.
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I am running Windows 7, my user account is an account with administrator privileges. I also went in and set the program to run as admin with the same results? As I mentioned I can downgrade back to 0.11.5 and are able to save games its only with the two newer ones that I receive this error. Any additional ideas?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I have another win7 machine that seems to run 11.8 just fine. I attempted to copy its program files over from that machine to this one and still have the same results. They both have the same username so any pathing should be identical. Is there any other programs or libraries I should be checking to make sure are updated?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I have attempted the uninstall and re-install several times setting the setup.exe to run as administrator as well. Same results, is there any log files I could provide that would shed some light on how I can resolve this issue?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
Please try the zip version of the game. (Don't forget to unzip it! Move the files into a directory on the desktop, for example.)
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
Nova,
Thank you very much for the idea, sadly I ended up with the exact same result. I did exactly as stated, extracted the zip to the desktop. Ran the Factorio.exe from within the bin folder, it made a saves folder. I generated a new game and attempted to save and was greeted with the same error as before. Seeing as I tended to keep my computers all relatively the same I am at a loss with what the actual difference is between this machine and apparently everyone else. Is there any information I can provide that will assist in troubleshooting this error? Thanks.

Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
Beginning to feel like I am only talking to my self, but I was hoping due to all the fixes they made in 11.9 that I might get lucky and have this resolved. Unfortunately this is not the case, I am still receiving the same error. Still looking forward to any additional insight or guidance on what I can provide to resolve this. Thanks.
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
1) Are all the folders named in English?
Please ensure, that the folders / paths don't contain any special symbols like $, %, ^, etc.
I had a similar issue, when my Windows Account was named in Russian.
2) Maybe, you have viruses, so try reinstalling Windows.
3) Try to disable anti virus, while playing Factorio.

Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
This is a wild guess, but - perhaps some antivirus or security program is preventing Factorio from creating some files, thinking (for some reason?) it is a malicious software?
This is a longshot, but perhaps you could try disabling any antivirus software you have for a few moments, and see if it solves the problem.

Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
Hi, try posting the Log file. What is the exact path to factorio? What is the exact path to write data (where saves and temp directories are located)?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I took the zip version and placed it directly into the C drive, with a path of C:\Factorio and was not successful. I attempted virus scans and removing them completely. I still was receiving the error so due to the circumstances I reinstalled windows to a new hard drive as I needed to maintain the old one due to software I have installed on it. On this new install everything seems to work perfectly now.
Cube, I will put the old drive back in and attempt to get the log file as well as the rest of the data you mentioned. If this has happened to me it can happen to someone else and I am sure a fix other then reinstalling windows would be better for future people. Thank you all for the help and ideas.

Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
One more thing to try on the old drive: Can you manually create a directory in the C:\Factorio\Temp directory?
Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I looked for this thread for so long and could never find it. It does not come up when put in the search or advanced search. So I made a thread myself and low and behold there was one, go figure. Now I not sure what to do, I don't spend much time on forums to really know, but I am having the same problem with 11.10. I will post a link to my thread for reference since i added save and photos. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =47&t=7927

I also have this problem in newly generated worlds. I have a "-" in the path but it was never a problem in the past.

I tried to do this kind of directory on my desktop as well, and I couldn't reproduce it. Does it still happen, when you put the folder to just:SuperSandro2000 wrote:This is my Factorio pathCode: Select all

Bug is also in 0.11.9... The directory worked before and I used it for over half a year.
Same error in C:\Factorio but I used 0.11.9 this time and not 0.11.10.
By the way I'm using the zip for x64 and have Windows 7.

Re: boost::filesystem::unique_path: An Internal error occurr
I found the cause of the bug most probably. It is problem in boost (The C++ library we use), and patch to fix it is available, I will try to incorporate the patch into the next release.
