Headless lag vs Windows Server

Post by adam_bise »

I feel like I am missing something. A friend and I have been playing on various setups and every time the remote user starts to get unplayable lag. Like server not responding every 5 seconds and constant rubber bands.

The weird thing is, when we switch to windows server the problem goes away. This has been the case on 2 different physical machines and on both of our broadband connections.

I would say there is a router issue, but the problem doesn't happen on Windows. Same thing for bandwidth, CPU memory etc.

Its as if there is a setting in Linux that I dont know of that would cause this.

We've tried Debian and Ubuntu, base install. The local user plays fine the remote user gets unplayable lag after 40 hours or so. Putting the same map on the same server in the same network on a windows install fixes the problem.

I feel like I must be missing something fundamental about setting up Linux for factorio. These are plain installs, just install Linux, set up the networking, and copy the game files.

We don't use any special config other than a custom port number, no mods, nothing crazy about our map...

What's up with headless? Is there something about the default interface options in Linux that I need to change? I haven't found anything online about it so kind of stumped.
