Just a thought I had while playing 0.17, sometimes I like to switch research because something else is more useful at that time to be done first, however I am then left without knowing how much research was completed on a previous item.
For me, If I could easily see these values I feel that it would enable me to easily complete already partially completed research at a glance.
I have made some mock-ups of possible options (my image editing skills are not great, but it should give you an idea)
Option One - Add a progress bar in the space to the left of the "Start Research Button" [HD Link]
Pros: It's clearly visible | Does not intrude on already existing GUI elements too heavily
Cons: It cannot be seen unless the research is selected, so it doesnt give that overall visibility

Option Two - Add a percentage readouts to every partially complete research [HD Link]
Pros: Clearly visible even if you do not select a research
Cons: Could be complex to add, also it looks a bit ugly.

Option Three - Add a smaller progress bar to each partially completed research [HD Link]
Pros: Clearly visible even if you do not select a research | Fits into the new GUI style
Cons: Could be difficult to add to the GUI Code.

Out of all of the proposed options, I personally believe that Option Three is the better option for full visibility.
