[0.11.1] couldn't create atlas bitmap (size 512X413)

impossible to start the game (0.11.1) windows 32
previous versions work very good for me (0.10.12)

@ slpwnd Graphic settings? you mean in the config.ini "low-graphics=true"?
if there are more places to adjust graphics please let me know. (game will not launch so I have no buttons to click, must be changed in files/code)

My friend uses win xp so I guess we will have to wait til that is fixed to play MP anyway. But I REALLY wanted to check out the new tanks, gates etc.
My laptop has always required low graphics mode to even launch the game. Previously Dytech would overload graphics but after it went modular it worked. :)

1. What is your system specs? (operating system, amount of RAM, graphic card spec + VRAM info)
2. Do you use any mods? Have you tried just vanilla?
3. Try to play in the config with combination of low-graphics set to true and bitmap-caching set to very-low.

Maybe the best would be to move this to a bug report thread.

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Graphics: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
Total Available Graphics Memory: 358 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB
System Video Memory: 64 MB
Shared System Memory: 294 MB

Game has no mods (removed due to crash will attempt to re-download but suspect same issue)

How Much Graphics Memory does the game require now?
As I mentioned before my PC will run 0.10.x with Most of DyTech + several other mods, now it won't even load the Vanilla game.
I wonder if this is related to that patch that was mentioned as part of the 0.11.1 fix? (I'm gonna try downloading the 0.11.0 and test that, Let you know :!:

Hmm glad you could test that Cordylus. I can't get 0.11.0, seems they removed it from the lists due to the debug code issue. Expected i suppose.

One thing I have noticed in my testing is Factorio 0.10.1 uses less than 600,000 kb Ram, 0.11.1 uses over 800,000. (based on the commit column in Resource Monitor)
I don't know how to check on Video Ram usage but I already know my laptop has only shared video with no way to force an increase. :(
I won't have a desktop available until next week and then it is running XP which is also bugged. :cry:

@ DEVS:
Any chance of a fix before/by then? :P
PS. :idea: what happened to that "extremely low graphics mode" that was being used for early testing in MP? (I don't care if it looks 'blocky', 'weird' or whatever as long as it loads)

Probably not enough video memory.
Setting bitmap caching option to very-low, please restart the game.

Workaround:
1. Open "%appdata%\Factorio\config\config.ini" with a texteditor.
2. Past "
graphics-quality=very-low
bitmap_cache_enabled=true
bitmap_cache_priority_threshold=very-low
" in it.
3. Close the texteditor.
4. Open Factorio
5. Try a higher resolution
6. if (brocke) {goto 1.} else {Play and have fun};

Worked for me, but holy shit does it look ugly now.
Hilarity was had when I looked at the inserters now, btw.

Anyway, I can play around with the values? Like " very-low " becomes "low" and "medium"?

Same here. Works only on "very-low" and looks awful.

I played with "low" and it not work again with this value. The game starts, but crashes while loading the game.

@ Cordylus bug is in "Pending" because staff hasn't moved it to either confirmed or resolved (hopefully it will be resolved in game)

WOW very-low is very, very boxy/pixeley but it LOADS . . . YAY!
Ooooh, my computer will load it at low setting, WAY better (about like it was before :) So sad that yours won't work with low Cordylus :( ).
So I am using

Does anybody know if the "low-graphics=true" still does anything or was it replaced with the "graphics-quality"?
(obviously it doesn't hurt as it is still in my config.ini but I was curious, maybe I will try removing it...)

Changing the graphics quality to low / very low shouldn't be necessary when using the bitmap caching. Bitmap caching essentially keeps the most demanding and not often used sprites (enemy death animations, player, trains, tank) out of the video memory and loads it only on demand. Graphics quality scales down all larger sprites (that is why it looks so ugly).

Also the difference between 0.11.1 and 0.11.0 has nothing to do with this (it was an internal MP problem that got fixed + some locale problems).

I set the "bitmap_cache_enabled=false" and now works fine. I think it can be marked as "fixed".
