[Solved][0.16.51] Freez and crash at "loading sprites" 40%

So for a while ive played with no issues at all. took a break for a few weeks and came back to factorio and it crashes when i try to start the game at loading sprites 40%. if i uninstall and install it will load one time but if i close the game and try to open again it locks up. after it locks up and crashes and i get the not responding popup and close it out if i try to open it again my screen flashes about 3 times and i get the popup "initialization failed error code 01". if i restart the computer it will open the game and get stuck at 40% again and repeats the above. im tired of reinstalling every time i want to play someone help please

This is a steam copy in the log file you will see i tried to force opengl was from a post i saw when trying to search for a solution. im also using vanilla game no mods.

Remove the opengl command and try to get a log after it gives you the "initialization failed error code 01" or any other error.

Initialization error 01 means that the game failed to initialize graphics API (Direct3D 9 in this case), which seems to often happen when computer is not rebooted after graphics driver update. But recently it seems to be happening randomly and more often, which is one of the reasons I am looking forward to us moving to DirectX 11 in next update.
So my advice on Error 01 is to try --force-opengl, reboot computer, try different version of graphis drives - you have switchable graphics on your laptop, so you should update Intel graphics driver too, as nvidia one needs to cooperate with it during the intialization.

this seems to have fixed it i think. loaded the game up successfully a few times fingers crossed

This fix still appears to work in 1.7 latest. I was distraught. Happy now!

Hello, for me it does not open, it is still stuck on loading, but out of nowhere the window minimizes, and it remains like this for more than I click on it, just remaining to force the closing, the app seems to be normal (non-responding does not appear in the manager ) I tried to download all previous versions and nothing.

That issue should no longer happen in the current version, make a dedicated report please including your log file. See 52433.
