Hi,
Looking to set up a headless server for me and a couple of friends to play on.
I have gotten a local standalone server to run and connect without issue, and would now like to move this to a Windows Server VM.
My query is, do I need to install Steam for the headless server to run, or can I simply copy over the install directory from Steam/common to the VM and run it?
Thanks
Eds
Creating headless server from Steam version of the game
Re: Creating headless server from Steam version of the game
You will need to download headless from factorio website, and copy over save from your steam game.eds89 wrote:Hi,

Steam version doesn’t run without steam.
If you have linkec your steam account with factorio account, you have access to drm free version
Re: Creating headless server from Steam version of the game
There is no special headless build for Windows. You can copy install directory from Steam, and it will work even without steam if you run it as headless server, but I'd suggest you to learn and use SteamCMD for easy updates

Ah my bad on windows you use client as headless server. Was just hinking about linux, or does not linux version use steam sdk?posila wrote:There is no special headless build for Windows. Although i will still stick with zip drm version for sever (even on windows), because you have 3verything in one spot

Thanks guys.
Had a go at copying over the install directory, and seems to run without issue.
Will check out SteamCMD for sure!
Cheers

i'm updating factorio server manually, because of select set of mods, and other stuff, but as for exe, you can take inspiration from space engineers server script (i used to host SE too)
seserver.cmd
