Programmable Speaker

Post by Depresso »

Hi, This is my first post so I'm not all too sure how to do this but there is a speaker that can play sounds.
I would like to know if (and how) I can set it up so that whenever I get attacked, instead of the normal attacking sound, The speaker turns on and starts playing an alarm.

I am not a huge fan of the default sounds so I turn them down, but because of that I sometimes get attacked and I don't even notice the alert xD
The speaker will definitely be enough to notify me.

And just to go off-topic a little bit,
Maybe some pro tips?
I am okay at the game but my builds are highly inefficient.

There is no easy way to do that in vanilla Factorio. I say easy because anything is possible if you get creative enough. The only solution I can think of would be to find out when your turrets start firing,. Usually this is done by connecting laser turrets to an accumulator, detecting higher-than-normal power usage, and connecting them to the main network. Unfortunately I can't find any blueprints at the moment, though I don't really have time to look. Gun turrets would require a slightly different setup, and wouldn't be able to detect small attacks or atacks as quickly. If you don't have turrets... then it's nearly impossible.

As for other general advice, some stuff copied and pasted from various other threads, so it may be worded somewhat funnily:

Sources (if you want more, it's in these threads): here, viewtopic.php?f=18&t=53012]here, here.
  • No matter how big you plan, you'll always need more eventually.
  • If you split 1 belt into 6 belts, each of those 6 belts will only have 1/6 the throughput (actually, in your case it will be 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16, 1/32, and 1/32).
  • Having multiple belts per ore is pretty mucuh a necessity (at least in the early stages of the game - that can change in several ways later on). Many people will advocate for a "main bus" of iron copper, steel, and perhaps some other things like gears and circuits running through your factory. Personally I prefer an approach more spaghetti-like, but I do have several belts running through my factories in various places.
  • Sometimes, ratios matter (for example, 3 copper wire: 2 green circuit assemblers, in most early setups). Other times, just build enough. If you need more, build more, if you need less, don't build less, and so on. That's what most people do for smelting, and (most commonly in main bus setups) for things like gears and circuits as well.
  • Have fun!
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.
