TL;DR
Wooden pallets for e.g. the individual components for green circuitsWhat ?
Wooden pallet:4x wood 1x iron plate
Example:
Green circuits need an iron plate and 3 copper cables.
These items are placed on a wooden pallet with an assembly machine. To place the wooden pallets on a belt you need Stack-inserter.
Now you can put these picked items on the pallet with the help of a stack inserter in an assembly machine and so the green circuits are produced. The wooden pallets and the circuits are stored on a belt.
The wooden pallets can be used infinitely often (like the barrels).
Ores can only be loaded in 12 stack items per pallet.
You can stack components for a total of 4 items on a pallet.
It should not be available for all items.
Only for:
Intermediates that have more of a component (except processors)
inserter
ammunition
Rails, railway station, train signal, train chain signal
power poles
lamp
Circuit network
modules
fighting robots
Science packages
Intermediate products such as iron plates, copper plates, steel beams, plastic rods, copper cables, and so on, can also be stacked on the pallets (max 12 items) but must be unstacked for further processing.
Why ?
Wood has only one benefit at the beginning of the game. The wood becomes more interesting in the later game.So you could max on a belt (8 items / 8 pallets). Keep 96 ore. For the train traffic one can use a stacking factor of 10.
And the game would be one idea more complex to ensure a reasonable circulation of the pallets.
I think this way you can counteract the logistics robots as they always carry only the same items. And the pallets are used to transport entire components for a product.
And logistics robots can not transport pallets.
You do not need pallets anymore?
Burn them
