[0.16.X] Crash at startup during "Loading Sprites"

I've been having this issue with all versions of 0.16, when launching the game, the initial startup phase starts and then during the "Loading Sprites" phase the game crashes with a non-descript error. Most commonly these seems to happen at 41% or 89%. The attached log and dump are from a crash at 89%.
