Editing an existing mod
Hi guys, I want to make some changes to a mod I downloaded, so I opened up the .zip file from the \AppData\Roaming\Factorio\mods directory and made the changes that I wanted, but when I go back into the game the changes are not present. What do I need to do to get my changes into the game?
Re: Editing an existing mod
Do you play the zip version of the game ? or the Steam version ?
Did you completely quit the game afterwards ?

I play the Steam version, and yes I completely quit the game. I also tried disabling the mod and re-enabling it.Koub wrote:Do you play the zip version of the game ? or the Steam version ?

Sorry if my question makes you think I'm thinking you're dumb, but are you absolutely sure your changes should be seeable upon game load (I'm in IT support business, and believe me, there is no such thing as a stupid question )? maybe can you tell us what mod, and what changes ?

Might need to clear the graphics cache, if you made graphical edits. It's under:
IIRC.
Code: Select all
..\AppData\Roaming\Factorio\crop-cache.dat

Yeah, to test I tried changing the HP of a vehicle the mod added, but it's still got the old HP.Koub wrote:Sorry if my question makes you think I'm thinking you're dumb, but are you absolutely sure your changes should be seeable upon game load (I'm in IT support business, and believe me, there is no such thing as a stupid question )? maybe can you tell us what mod, and what changes ?

Re: Editing an existing mod
My bet gets to changing files in a zip without proper zip tool so changes are not saved back into the zip file.

I re-opened the zip file and it does look like my changes are there, they just aren't appearing in game.steinio wrote:My bet gets to changing files in a zip without proper zip tool so changes are not saved back into the zip file.
Re: Editing an existing mod
Didn't the stem version handle mods differently? Try running the console version.
Re: Editing an existing mod
Just unzip your zip archive and and delete it.

Re: Editing an existing mod
While modding, it is preferable to work with mods that aren't zipped. So the first thing you should do is extract the zip file, then delete the zip... or at least remove it from the mods folder.
but if you're certain that your changes were saved back into the zip file... then I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Though, are you sure the licence of the mod allows you to modify it?
(Bob's mods allows any modifications you want to do for personal use, but you're not allowed to share these changes. You are allowed to however write your own mod that changes things within mine)

Any modder who tries to tell users they can't edit a mod for their own use is an idiot and should be ignored.bobingabout wrote:Though, are you sure the licence of the mod allows you to modify it?
