Head is exploding need help with water / steam temperature

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

Head is exploding need help with water / steam temperature

Post by Openhand »

Hi, i want to know to know or how to calculate how many joules/watts it cost to warm up water or steam by 1 degree, thx :)

I'm using mods that have several steam engines and boilers with different temperature levels and efficiency, but i think i can work it out if i know vanilla.

I dunno if i should tell you but i have been trying to figure this out for hours and i'm starving.

Thanks! that helped a lot and i think i got closer to a solution.

I can now see where the 3,6Mj figure comes from in the Steam Engine: (200 joules / 50% efficiency) * 165C - 15C = 60kj and multiplying 60k with 60 water/sec gives us 3,6Mj heating cost per second which matches the in game description of the steam engine.

But i cannot get this to match Boiler MK2 (bobs power), i had to hack it to cost 231,81818 instead 200 joules per degree celsius (it also has 60% efficiency and use max heat 235C and its expected max heating cost should be 5,1Mj according to tooltip but it is now 4,4Mj instead btw) so instead of 85kj for 235-15C temperature increase i get 73333,33 joules for 235-15C temperature increase.

After hack i get the expected 85k but this isn't how math works (unless it is hardcoded in by bobs mod that it is 231,81818 and not 200 joules), which i cannot know, the difference is in the efficiency and the temperature the engines can handle but cannot solve it completely yet.
