Tell him to read all of this: 51319, and to post all the requested information if he has further questions.
Re: Low FPS only as Multiplayer Client
The log is from your friend, he is hosting (UPC Switzerland) and you are joining (Swisscom).
You mentioned that there are no issues if he is hosting and others join (as in the log file), but there are issues if he joins the Nitrado server. That log from your friend when playing on the server might be helpful.
I noticed however that your friend has set the Steam launch options to "--force-opengl --video-memory-usage=medium --max-texture-size=4096".
He should be able to remove the --force-opengl if his graphics drivers are up-to-date and also the --video-memory-usage since he has 8GB of VRAM. The --max-texture-size was used as a workaround for an issue with new graphics drivers (actually --force-opengl was another workaround for that) but both were resolved when 0.14.22 was released a few months ago.
He should try removing all these launch options (they are all graphical settings), maybe that will help.
If not, then have him post a screenshot with show-time-usage and show-fps enabled (F4 --> 'always' tab --> enable these options).
