Train Cargo Control

Hi guys, I am new to the forums, but have put about 20 hours into the game.
I am currently using a train to move stuff around my factory. In the first cargo carriage I have iron plates and solid fuel. The problem is that I am getting too much fuel in this carriage and not enough iron plates. So, my question is this: is there a way to control how much fuel and how much iron is placed in this wagon? I don't have a logistics system set up and would prefer not to have to move my inserters around.

if you middle-mouse-click on a slot in the inventory of a wagon, you can select what goes there. You will have to do this for every slot. Not sure if you need to unlock it first though.

I tried filtering, but it seems like it only works on one's personal inventory.
I have relented and now have rearranged some things so that only iron is getting put into the 1st carriage, while solid fuel is getting put into its own carriage.

What version are you playing? The ability to filter wagons was introduced in 0.10.0.

Yes, if you haven't enabled experimental updates you'll still be in 0.9.8 which is from before it was implemented. Experimental updates are now in 0.10.6 which is pretty stable at this point (though not yet officially).
