Bob's / Angels Early game builds

Post by TheSAguy »

Hi,

I've recently decided to add Angels to my mod collection after using Bob since 0.12
Obviously Angels changes things around and it will probably take me a few tries to get my head around everything.

I was hoping to get some early game builds.
The biggest challenge I'm facing is to get to the Filter Inserter, since that is crucial in sorting all those outputs.
Unless I'm missing something, it seems like there is an awful lot of research needed, since I need Bob's mixing furnace and that's after Angel's Bronze something...

Anyways, if anyone has some good early setups I'd appreciate you sharing them.
P.S. I'm laying on Rail-world settings with Tech & Recipes on Expensive and 4x Science multiplier.
Thanks,

It is helpful to use direct feed a lot.

For example the crusher puts out crushed stone and some kind of crushed ore. You can feed the crushed stone directly into a stone assembler, and feed the crushed ore directly into furnaces or a sorting machine. The sorting machine puts out ore and slag, the slag can be fed directly into a slag crusher, the ore can be fed directly into furnaces.

If you use the sorting recipes early on you'll get mixed output. Before filter inserters you can't really sort it (I know there are some esoteric methods - I'm ignoring those). The easiest solution is to just run the mixed plates past assemblers that take the plates they need, for example you can run a mixed belt of iron and copper plates past the gear assembler and red science assemblers. At the end of the belt insert all leftovers into a chest for later use. You can also just not use the sorting recipes, simple crushing is pretty good.

This is my Early setup. You can just repeat this several times. Each input of about 8-10 mining drills.
I manually feed the coal to the furnaces, but that can also easily be belted in for fully automation.

I'am not an expert, but this is my "build":

1. Iron - 2 drills -> 1 crusher -> 1 box -> 2 furnaces -> 1 box
Manually extract crushed stone whenever you need stone and later add an assembler.
Second furnace is there for manual inserting from the crusher.
It is not an efficient setup, but good enough.

2. Copper - same as iron

3. Electricity - just basic setup to start reseach and electric mining

4. Research electrical refining and switch fully to electric (except furnaces)
I usually add second iron setup to speed things up.

5. Build 1 sorting facillity, sort enough bobmonium to build 8 or 12 greenhouses and kickstart wood pruduction.

6. Build basic smelting (your favorit build) for iron, copper, tin and lead. Use only basic crushed ores, no sorting.
Use assemblers to clean crashed stone from crashed ore and always place one at the end of smelting (or learn it by trableshooting lack of iron plates :D )

7. Finish all research needed for basic electronic board (circuit required for speed and filter inserters) and build simple production line.

8. Scale everything as needed.

9. Enjoy your first temporary factory to build a bigger factory

10. Choose one:
(A) Ignore large scale sorting until you have Hydro refining or even Chemical refining, or
(B) Sort all ores as soon as possible and use Angel's smelting to increased yield.

Random tips:
Direct feeding is your best friend.
If you can't sort it automaticaly, just put it in a box and sort it manually whenever necessary.
Don't be afraid of small scale production. To have some production of everything is often better than efficiency.
Use loader and bigger warehouses (Angel's ones or from Warehousing mod).
Be careful about tiers of building, different buildings scales differently, therefor upgraiding tends to break builds.
Decentralize water treatment facillities and use water voids.
In Angel's petrochem place largest tanks everywhere, almost all by-products are usefull and adding tanks is really paintful.
Trains are big sortable boxes.
Craft red science pack whenever you can, there is a lot of research needed for even basic factory.

Thanks for the tips Sogrog.

Here is my tier 2 plant. once you get filter inserters.

Why buffer stuff twice?

Besides the fact that I like buffers, no reason. I even think those two processes run at the same speed.
But for some reason I like small buffers in my layouts, just 1 cell of the container.

This is one of the better early setups for mass iron/copper production:

You can either use 2 crushers to 14 stone furnaces (each crusher feeds exactly 7 furnaces), or 3 crushers to 16 stone furnaces (which will max out a single lane of belt but under-utilize the 3rd crusher). The stone assembler at the end of the belt is a good precaution to scoop up any missed crushed stone.

Also obviously you can make it cleaner with fast inserters replacing pairs of long inserters, but once you have fast inserters you have filter inserters too and can do fancier things.
