[0.15.30] Tutorial unplayable with mod

Post by dryswabbie »

I was unable to to complete the third tutorial due to mods (Train schedules and train stops).

I traced the problem to the 'Skip first hour' mod from Aidan647, though other train mods also affected previous tutorials.

Replication steps:
  • Install Skip first hour mod
  • Create new game (default)
  • Enter tutorial "Train schedules & train stops"
  • Get to step where a burner inserter is to be used to fuel the train
  • Note there is no coal available in inventory
Current workaround: Quit current game, disable all mods, create new game, play tutorials, re-enable mods, reload last game

Recommended fix: Automatically disable all mods in tutorials

Disabling mods in tutorials would also ensure the view of what people see, matches the screenshot in the tutorial pane. It may also make solving the tutorial crash bugs reported elsewhere mute.

I know this is a digression, but does the tutorial accept you using the wooden chests or small electrical poles as fuel?

Hi, thanks for the report.
We knew mods could break tutorials and we are alright with it, because we assume players who play with tutorial-breaking mods already know how to play the game.
The priority is to start and end tutorial quickly without need of saving or loading player's map. Disabling mods would require whole game to restart, which is quite unacceptable for mini-tutorials.
